THQ is definitely experiencing some troubles related to its uDraw flop and subsequent layoffs, as evidenced by a new document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
President and CEO Brian Farrell will take a pay cut for the year starting February 15, which reduces his salary from $718,500 to $359,250. His salary will go back up the next year.

His golden parachute has also been tailored a bit more closely, as the payment he’d receive upon departure from the company (either termination “without cause” or resignation with “good reason”) has been cut from three times his highest-ever bonus to just his highest-ever bonus. This is, of course, a small sacrifice compared to the THQ employees whose salaries went from “some” to “none.”

The board of directors is also seeing some cuts: all the other directors have “elected” to receive 50% less cash compensation for a year effective today.

A new holiday edition producer’s letter has been published on the official TERA site, and in it Chris Hager announces that he is currently using the studio’s new launcher to log in to the game. Why is this such a big deal? Hager explains that it “represents a huge leap for us here at En Masse.” He goes on to tell how, over the past year, the team has worked “directly and intimately with the Bluehole development team to… add features that appeal to western gamers.”

But why is the new launcher so important? Because it’s one of the features that the studio built from the ground up. Hager also notes that the game has been in alpha for “about 4 months” and that this week is the last week of alpha testing. He says the team is also looking forward to “the next step in TERA’s journey toward launch next spring.” Here’s to hoping that next step is a beta test. For the full letter, just click on over to the official TERA site.

No job ever goes quite right, no matter how well you plan it. It’s as true in Champions Online as it is anywhere else, and it’s certainly the case in the latest installment of the Whiteout series. After all, the first two issues made it plenty clear that heroes would have their hands full dealing with a downed alien spacecraft, but now things are going from bad to worse for the Steelhead soldiers and the player characters. It seems there’s another player involved in the game who hopes to get in on the wrecked ship…

As with previous installments of the series, the new issue can be played by any character over level 11 and provides special rewards in addition to the usual mission benefits. But if you’ve already played through the mission, you can take a look at the game’s latest Art Corner, which shows off the design of the mechanical antagonists plaguing the newest mission installment (and the subsequent ones as well, most likely).

Zomg, the sky is falling in Azeroth! OK, not really, but World of Warcraft is heading for troubled waters if you believe an analyst at Lazard Capital Markets. According to a report at Gamespot, Atul Bagga downgraded Activision-Blizzard’s stock from “buy” to “neutral” due to the results of a recent online survey that pointed to restlessness among a certain subset of WoW players.

Whether the perceived wanderlust has to do with the game’s age (it turns seven this month) or the deafening hype bandwagon that is gathering steam due to next month’s Star Wars: The Old Republic debut, the numbers indicated a possible loss of between 900,000 and 1.6 million WoW players following TOR’s launch.

Have you ever wondered what kind of dirt law enforcement officers would be able to dig up on you if they went to World of Warcraft developer Blizzard for information? Well, wonder no more. An 18-page document has been leaked to the internet thanks to the notorious organization known as AntiSec. The document is two years old, but it outlines what information Blizzard will disclose to law enforcement officers under given stipulations.

And in completely and utterly unrelated news (well, Chuck Norris played a Texas ranger, so I guess there’s some kind of connection), the game has revived its celebrity-laden advertisement series with a new commercial featuring none other than the hero of Barrens chat himself, mister Chuck Norris. As expected, the short clip is full of WoW-modified Chuck Norris jokes because apparently that horse hasn’t been sufficiently flogged yet. To see the ad for yourself, just click on past the cut.

After a half-price XBLA sale sent the excellent indie Limbo to the top of the best-sellers list last week, developer Playdead has announced that it’s sold one million copies of the punishing platformer across three platforms, including PSN and PC. To celebrate that milestone, Playdead is adding an additional platform to the mix: Mac OS.

The Mac release is currently “in the works” and “will be released before the end of the year.” Playdead CEO and co-founder Dino Patti told Joystiq that the Mac release will support SteamPlay, for those of you who’ve already purchased the PC release, and will also be released on the Mac App Store, if that’s more your speed.

The one million milestone also provided Playdead an opportunity to discuss its recent actions to ensure its own independence by “fully acquiring the company from early investors.” Patti says, “We are grateful to everyone who supported us over the past few years, and look forward to forging new partnerships that will both let us reach new heights as a studio and give our director, Arnt Jensen, room to grow creatively.”

Activision has reported its financial results for its fiscal third quarter, ended September 30. The company posted revenues of $754 million, up from $745 million during the same period last year and, more importantly, over $100 million more than its original outlook of $650 million. Net income came in at $148 million, a hefty increase over the $51 million brought in during the same period last year.

The company brought in a record $427 million in revenues from digital channels, accounting for 57 percent of total revenue. The results also make note of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which Activision cites as “the #1 best-selling title in dollars in aggregate across all platforms in the U.S. and Europe for each of the first three quarters of 2011.”

On the back Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the “stronger than expected consumer response” to the toy-driven Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, the company is raising its revenue outlook for the rest of the year from $4.18 billion to $4.33 billion.

Lineage II is going free-to-play. This isn’t news (or rather, it’s old news at this point, amirite?). We wish we could tell you when the stalwart fantasy title is flipping the free-to-play switch, but unfortunately NCsoft’s big announcement earlier this afternoon made no mention of a release date.

The company did unveil a new trailer that clocks in at just under a minute in length, and it boasts of 400 hours’ worth of gameplay and optional leveling and quality-of-life enhancements from the L2 store. There’s also a new section of the Lineage II website devoted to the “truly free” marketing campaign. Other than that, though, there are still more questions than answers, and your guess is as good as ours when it comes to release dates for the long-awaited Goddess of Destruction content and the business-model switcheroo.

In terms of additional info, ZAM recently interviewed NCsoft bigwigs and wrangled some pricing-related details out of them (most items are in the one dollar range, with some as high as $15 depending on whether or not they’re time-limited). We’ll keep you update with more L2 F2P news bits as they happen.

Last week we reported that veteran browser MMO RuneScape was losing its ongoing war on bots. Players have begun botting on a massive scale, and it’s become increasingly difficult to distinguish bots from ordinary players. Developer Jagex asked for help from the playerbase in solving the botting problem and announced its intention to continue fighting legal battles against the creators of bot programs.

In a new community update this week, Jagex Chief Executive Officer Mark Gerhard announced the release of a new doomsday weapon in the war on bots. In an upcoming patch on October 25th, Jagex will be “launching our most formidable bot-busting weapon in our history, targeting what we believe to be 98% of the bots seen in game.” This update permanently prevents reflection bots from working and the effects should be immediately visible in-game. To celebrate “bot-nuking day”, Tuesday’s patch brings four days of events and minigame bonuses for regular players.
