Massively tours Fiesta’s new Expedition to Adealia

Who doesn’t love checking out a game’s new content? I love it, for sure. So I was more than happy to sit down and ride along with the developers of Fiesta as they showed off their new expansion, Expedition to Adealia. The tour wasn’t all rainbows and kittens, that’s for sure. I found myself surrounded by towering monsters, crazy children brandishing giant knives, and massive, fire-breathing boss-monsters. It was fun, but I had no idea this cute Anime title could be so hardcore!

Luckily for me, my hosts had the ability to heal or resurrect me when needed. I didn’t do too shabbily, though, and I shot arrows like bullets, bringing down every mighty beast I came across. It was fun, yes, but a real slaughter. Well, for the monsters at least.

And for those of you who’d like to host your own dance party in the game, Outspark was kind enough to provide Massively with plenty of goodie bag codes to give away. To get this free item, head to the redemption page and enter the item code MassivelyFiesta. You have until the 31st of January to redeem it.

Journey on to see just what I found during my tour of the Adealia expansion!

Korean online gaming giant Nexon has raised $1.17 billion from its initial public stock offering. The filing stated that Nexon has 1.2 billion registered players, 77 million of which were active as recently as September 2011. CFO Owen Mahoney says the company’s expertise made it an attractive proposition for new shareholders. “We can really bring a lot to the table. We know how to tune a game so that people will play it for months on end,” he explained.

Nexon’s IPO was the largest on the Tokyo Stock Exchange this year, and as a result the company is now valued somewhere between $7.69 billion and $8.97 billion according to GamesIndustry.biz.

Even so, Nexon’s stock price slipped by 3.9 percent on its first day of trading.

Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio coming to Soulcalibur 5

October 17th, 2011

If you want to buy some wow gold or wow item, please click here.

The picture above was provided to us by an anonymous tipster, which we’re told comes from a beta version of the upcoming Soulcalibur 5 taken at a recent fighting game tournament. It appears to show that the fight for the Soul Edge will have a new guest contender this time around, hailing from the Italian Renaissance. If this shot is real, Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio Auditore de Firenze will be a playable character in the Soul Calibur 5, due out in March of next year.

Unfortunately, we don’t have confirmation just yet, and there’s no information about whether Ezio would be limited to a certain version of the game, or available to anyone playing it. But one thing is for sure: The Hidden Blade would look pretty nice decked out with Soul Edge finery.

Neal Stephenson talks MMORPGs and virtual economies

“The virtual reality that we all talked about and that we all imagined 20 years ago didn’t happen in the way that we predicted. It happened instead in the form of video games,” says Neal Stephenson, nerd icon and noted author of Snow Crash and The Diamond Age.

In a new interview at Forbes, Stephenson talks up his latest sci-fi opus, Reamde, and also offers his opinion on everything from the Metaverse to gamer stereotypes to players converting their in-game labor into real money. “It’s undoubtedly happening right now on an informal level all over the place. A huge amount of money is changing hands, and the thing that prevents it from coming out into the open and working the way it’s depicted in the novel is a number of legal and regulatory hang ups,” Stephenson says.

He also mentions his own gaming experiences as well as his new novel’s tendency towards adventure in place of the brainiac speculative fiction he’s famous for. Head to Forbes for the full report.

Will 2012 be our last chance?

September 21st, 2011

mmo in game service

As MMO gamers, we’re getting used to disappointment. Not so much disappointment in any one game, but a general feeling of being let down by game closures, studio layoffs, shoddy launches, and the strange idea that every game has to mimic World of Warcraft to be successful.

But 2011 has been our gateway to something different. Business models are changing, indie games are getting more recognition, failing games are getting a second chance, and developers are realizing that the customer’s (almost) always right. This brings us to 2012, which will be upon us in a little more than three months.

With Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, The Secret World, and other highly anticipated games on deck for 2012, we have a lot to look forward to. But what if those aren’t as successful as they need to be? Will we see a drastic change in MMOs as we know them, or is it simply part of the evolution process for technology and gaming? Let us know what you think!
