Those of you who’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on a TERA pre-order because of the uncertainty over retail collector’s edition versions of the game will have to wait a little longer. En Masse Entertainment’s Evan “Scapes” Berman posted an official statement on the TERA website a short time ago that basically says the company is aware of the problem but has no time-table for fixing it.

In a nutshell, the En Masse website has been advertising physical collector’s edition packages for the better part of a week, but when gamers go to the various retail partner websites listed on the page, the CEs are nowhere to be found. Some TERA fans are a bit anxious because pre-ordering guarantees a slot in the fast-approaching closed beta period, and the only alternative thus far is to buy a digital version of the game directly from En Masse.

Charges of extreme cuteness have been directed at Blizzard ever since the company unveiled its Panda-themed expansion for World of Warcraft. If a new post on the Battle.net forums is any indication, that won’t be an issue for Diablo III.

A Blizz community manager penned an update regarding D3′s beta patch 10, and among the notes is the fact that the game’s companion scrolls are going away temporarily. “The companion pets felt like they were mandatory to maximize play efficiency and some of the pets were too cutesy for the gritty, dark world of Sanctuary,” Nethaera wrote.

The pets (and scrolls) aren’t gone for good, as the devs have plans for “a much cooler system (both mechanically and visually)” in the future.

As the free-to-play conversion for Star Trek Online continues to approach, the game’s development team continues to make more last-minute polishes. As outlined in the most recent entry in the Path to F2P blog series, one improvement directly pertains to the game’s graphics, putting in DirectX 11 support for players whose cards can support the display mode. While it won’t offer a performance increase for every player, there are players who have reported big jumps in FPS with DirectX 11 on while testing on the Tribble server.

The other major improvement deployed to the test server is a change to the game’s rank display. Previously, the game displayed levels by rank and grade — a player would move from Commander 10 (level 29) to Captain 1 (level 30), which was evocative of the setting but a bit hard to process at a glance. So the display has been trimmed up and improved, with player level displaying as a rank followed by the level (the previous example would now display as Commander 29, then Captain 30). No actual levels have been lost — it’s just a change to ensure that new players have an easier time understanding the level differences.

The Eve online winter expansion went live last week, adding new spaceships and fixing many elements of the Captain’s Quarters that have been frustrating players. Most people are pleased with new expansion. Let’s think back the last expansion- Incarna.
In a recent talk to PC Gamer, senior producer Arnar Hrafn Gylfason admitted that Incarna is a failture. He said Incarna only gave players some characters, the ability to walk around, some rooms, and nothing more. He pointed out “sure it’s a good step to being able to be a person and being able to see your person, but it’s a more important step for that person to be able to do something rather than just walk around. And I think that’s where we ultimately failed.”
It’s been about half a year since EVE’s Incarna expansion launched. The Incarna update added a series of unpopular features like the Captain’s Quarters and an item store selling expensive cosmetic items. However, Incarna wasn’t as popular as it should be among the community, and CCP admitted that they ultimately failed on the gameplay aspect.
Incarna’s problem was that it introduced some features “that the core community weren’t really excited for but had potential new markets”. It’s because the developer was “too focused on introducing the new technologies into EVE” and forgot “the more classical aspects of Eve Online”. CCP are keenly aware of Incarna’s faults, and Gylfason spoke to us honestly about the why Incarna failed. While the technology behind the new character creator and the captain’s quarters was impressive, Gylfason acknowledged that “we didn’t really do any gameplay around it, it was just “here are some characters, you can walk around and that’s it. That’s all you can do, you can walk around inside a small room.”
CCP went back on track in the latest Crucible update, Crucible is taking the first steps to set that right, adding new ships, brought back the classic station feature and improve the graphics. So are you satisfied with what CCP has done in Crucible?

Ever since free-to-play came to Lord of the Rings Online, players looking to move from one server to another have often run into a big, forbidding wall. To keep the server populations from capsizing, Turbine disallowed transfers to select servers for over a year.

It looks like this has changed, as Turbine recently posted an update to its paid premium services forum thread. In it, the studio announced that all such transfer restrictions are removed:
We are also happy to announce that NA World Character Transfers are now available for transfer between ALL North American servers as of 9th November, 2011! Yes, you may now transfer TO Brandywine, Crickhollow, Dwarrowdelf, Elendilmir, Imladris, Landroval, or Riddermark!
European players have access to this service as well.

Unfortunately, these transfers aren’t free but come with a hefty pricetag. Players looking to move server homes will need to shell out either $24.95, €21.95, or 2995 Turbine Points. There is also an issue with moving a character back to a server that it came from, so players cannot do that until Turbine resolves the issue.

Microsoft has posted that the Xbox.com website is getting an update “in the coming days” that will remove the “My Xbox” frontpage currently there now, and replace it with a “Social” section to make use of the “Beacons” feature eventually making its way to the console. Beacons are a way to mark which games you’re currently playing or want to play, and are supposed to encourage you and your friends to set up times to play together on Xbox Live. Players will be able to set up three Beacons at a time, and add an additional comment as well, like “between 7-9pm PST” or “Horde mode only.”

The website update will also make use of the “Metro” setup coming to the console’s dashboard, and of course allow for access to the usual Xbox.com actions like redeeming codes, messaging friends and checking out their profiles, or browsing for and purchasing Xbox Live titles.

Officially, the console’s Dashboard Update is still scheduled for a “Holiday 2011″ release, though previous reports have placed it sometime right around Thanksgiving. With this update coming to the website as soon as next week, however, it’s a good bet the console update is also close at hand.

Minmatar? Check. Gallente? Yep. Amarr? Roger roger. Caldari? It’s about time! EVE Online’s battlecruiser rollouts are now complete thanks to today’s introduction of the Naga. Like its three factional counterparts, the new ship is coming courtesy of EVE’s winter expansion. Also, like the previous reveals, the Naga is the brainchild of an EVE player and it first appeared during last summer’s Design a Starship competition.

In addition to its fearsome lines and considerable bulk, the Naga is “equally capable of fitting large torpedo launchers, large rail guns or even blasters, [and] is easily the most flexible weapons platform of the four new battlecruisers,” according to the latest CCP dev blog. Head to the official site for further info and additional images.

The patch notes for the patch 4.3 PTR have gone through a slight overhaul today. While the changes are not many, they’re pretty significant. Some of these changes have already been noted by players, like Hurricane’s new visual. Others are more of a surprise.

All healing debuffs are now up to 25%, from the current 10% on live. This includes the hunter pet abilities Monstrous Bite and Widow’s Venom, rogue Wound Poison, and warrior Mortal Strike and Furious Attacks. Paladins will now see Beacon of Light triggered by Holy Shock, Flash of Light, Divine Light and Light of Dawn at 50% transference and Holy Light at 100% transference. It does not transfer Holy Radiance, Protector of the Innocent or other sources of healing. Added a feature to interact with NPCs, game objects (mailbox, mining nodes, etc.), and corpses on left-click as well as right-click. There is now an option under Interface:Controls to turn this feature off. Finally, Dragonwrath users will notice that the chance for its effect to go off has been reduced. Not sure why Blizzard decided to buff healing debuffs at this stage of the expansion or why it reduced Dragonwrath’s chance to proc. Am interested in seeing if arms PVP feels better to me now, I will admit.

“There aren’t any new world events,” you point out.

That’s what makes it so quick. Although this goes without saying in any article discussing new achievements, there are a few spoilers in here discussing how you meet and work with various Cataclysm factions. If you’d rather stay unspoiled about upcoming quests, don’t go past the cut.

45 Exalted Reputations This is now the highest reputation-related achievement in the game. Interestingly, there is not a new title associated with it; you’ll still receive The Exalted at 40 Exalted Reputations, although it’s possible that it’s just a placeholder. Then again, if you already have 40 exalted reputations, getting 45 should be very simple during Cataclysm, as there’ll be at least six new reputation factions available. I’m not sure a new title’s going to be in the cards as a result.

Cataclysm reputation factions and achievements

The six new reputation faction achievements available are as follows:

Baradin’s Wardens (Alliance) and Hellscream’s Reach (Horde) These are the factions quarreling over Tol Barad, so you’ll have to get your PvP groove on in order to make any headway with them. I still have no experience with this Wintergrasp-like battleground (I’ve mostly been focusing on 5-mans on the beta), but Zach’s got you covered if you’re curious about it.
How do I find them? Head for Tol Barad. On the beta, a port will open to the battleground (similar to Wintergrasp) from Orgrimmar or Stormwind at level 85. Wildhammer Clan (Alliance) and Dragonmaw Clan (Horde) These are the folks associated with the Twilight Highlands. You’ll get an early and ugly introduction to the reordered political landscape as you meet them; Alliance/Horde conflict is the first thing you’ll see in this zone. If you’re Alliance, you’ll wake up to it after a bumpy ride in, and if you’re Horde, you’ll witness yet another moment of Garrosh Hellscream’s appalling stupidity on the airborne convoy delivering you to the Highlands. I know this expansion is meant to rehabilitate Garrosh’s image somewhat, and I’m happy to allow that it might occur in content I haven’t yet seen, but this is getting to be a harder sell by the day.
How do I find them? At level 84, a really interesting series of breadcrumb quests becomes available that will eventually put you on an airship (Horde) or plane (Alliance) to the Highlands. Having done both, I can state unequivocally that the Alliance quest line is by far the more fun and interactive of the two, but the Horde’s compensated with a badass event while you’re actually en route to the zone. Either way, you’ll be dumped on the proverbial doorstep of the new factions, and it’s awfully convenient how quickly their problems are suddenly yours.
Ramkahen These are the catlike NPCs you’ve probably seen in a bunch of screenshots we’ve run, and you’ll meet one of their more influential members in the opening cutscene to Uldum questing — which, by the way, is amazing. Like dwarves and gnomes, the Tol’vir were created to safeguard Titanic creations but many succumbed to the Curse of Flesh, becoming the faction you’ll know as Ramkahen.

How do I find them? Another breadcrumb quest, which becomes available at level 83 or 84 (I don’t recall which) from your local archaeology trainer or announcement board. You’ll be sent to southern Tanaris to a caravan waiting outside the Gate of Unending Cycles. A lengthy cutscene ensues, which I would very much like to see paired off so it can produce lots of cutscene babies for the future. At the end, you’ll meet Prince Nadun, who’s been imprisoned by the tol’vir and will get you started on Uldum questing. The Earthen Ring This faction’s technically in the game already in a very low-key sort of way, but with elementals running amok, you’ll be seeing a lot more of them. The Earthen Ring organization (and powerful shaman, more generally) play a key role in Deepholm questing while you’re trying to rebuild the World Pillar. The introduction to the zone is just as stunning as its Uldum counterpart. You know all those pictures you’ve seen of Thrall straining to keep the Maelstrom from getting even more unstable? That’s where you’ll be heading. Finishing Deepholm quests will (as with Therazane, below) gets you about halfway through honored.
How do I find them? A high-ranking representative guards the zone portals in Orgrimmar and Stormwind that whisk you off to all the new Cataclysm areas, and as of … I want to say early September, you’ll get a quest to go see them immediately on entrance to either city. You don’t even have to pick it up; it just appears in your quest log.
The Guardians of Hyjal Unsurprisingly, the druidic faction in Hyjal. If you finish off questing in the zone, you’ll wind up about 6k into revered with them. I finished questing in Hyjal before Blizzard did some additional work on both the faction and zone, so I’m not sure whether my experience is actually representative of what you can expect. Either way, even the early zone featured a very extensive and involving campaign against the Twilight’s Hammer.
How do I find them? Major cities feature new announcement boards in high-traffic areas where you can pick up the breadcrumb quests for zones, and that’s where I got the initial assignment to head to Moonglade for transport to Hyjal. An emerald dragon will oblige you with a flight into the zone, at which point you’ll discover that things are so much worse than everyone thought they were. Therazane You’ll get an introduction to Therazane the Stonemother and her cadre of powerful earth elementals, called the Stone Lords, in Deepholm. She doesn’t have any particular reason to like you right off the bat (mortals like you — or perhaps you, assuming you’ve finished Maraudon — killed her daughter), but your assistance putting the World Pillar back together will go a long way toward a civil partnership. At the end of Deepholm questing, you’ll be about halfway through honored with the faction, and they offer a set of daily quests to take you to exalted.

How do I find them? Assuming you’re questing through Deepholm, you’ll be introduced to them along the way. So how do you get reputation after questing? Cataclysm factions are similar to Wrath of the Lich King factions in that they offer tabards at friendly that give reputation while you’re completing dungeons. Unlike Wrath, this reputation is awarded only in heroics; you don’t get any for the higher-level dungeons on normal mode.

World events

So far, there are no changes or additions to holidays or major events in Azeroth. Blizzard’s said previously that it has no plans to alter What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been, so I doubt we’ll see any real changes apart from whatever might be required to make holidays compatible with the new landscape.
