It looks like the notorious Family Research Council has decided that it’s again time to dust off its pitchforks and light some torches, and this time the organization has Star Wars: The Old Republic in its sights. In a post on the Family Research Council’s website, president Tony Perkins announced that “in a galaxy not so far far away, Star Wars gamers have already gone to the dark side.”

Why are SWTOR players seeing a sudden influx of dark side points? Because, as the group states, “the new video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, has added a special feature: gay relationships.” Well, not quite — fans of the game know that same-gender romance arcs have been slated to be a post-launch feature since last fall but are still not part of the live game. The FRC is calling on players to think of the children and claims that parents and forum-goers alike are bothered by this “Star Warped way of thinking,” asking them to “show companies who the Force is really with!”

Massively addressed the topic in a 2010 opinion column. You can read the organization’s full statement at the link below.

With Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning just around the corner and Project Copernicus waiting in the wings, 38 Studios is fattening its golden website for the upcoming feast. The studio has expanded the site devoted to the world that both of these games inhabit, and those looking for hints and portents of the studio’s upcoming MMO would do well to seek lore within its pages.

Describing the website expansion as a “treasure trove” of new info, 38 Studios has added new landing pages, navigation features, and information about one of the game’s races: the Gnomes. The Gnomes are described as “an enigmatic people. They bestow wondrous gifts of knowledge, medicine, and magic to befriend the other kingdoms, yet seldom reveal their plans or intentions to outsiders.” It’s interesting to note that the Gnomes are divided up into three casts, which does tempt the mind into thinking the word “classes.”

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the single-player RPG that’s meant to fill the role of a prologue — in both real-world and in-game time — to the much larger Copernicus MMO.

During today’s Activision-Blizzard investor call, it was announced that WoW has a total of 10.3 million players. This is down from the 11.4 million subscribers announced in March 2011. That means that 1.1 million players no longer play the game, or a decline of about 10%.

In the call, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said that the majority of the subscriber loss happened in the east. There was no mention of specific subscriber numbers in the United States. Blizzard also declined to provide a subscriber forecast.

It’s not uncommon to find these numbers rise and fall with the time during an expansion’s life cycle. It is entirely possible that the numbers will increase with the release of Mists of Pandaria.

Two teenage boys who raped and murdered a fellow classmate in Victoria, British Columbia recently received a sentence of life in prison with no possibility of parole for 10 years. They weren’t very smart about covering it up, however, as one of the killers confessed his crime to a guildmate in World of Warcraft chat. He did so because he assumed that those chat logs were less likely to be saved.

Kruse Wellwood and Cameron Moffat spent time planning the assault beforehand, and Wellwood even mentioned his desire to do the crime to a guild friend in WoW. Following the 2010 crime, Wellwood logged back in World of Warcraft to talk about the murder to his online girlfriend in Halifax, sending her links of the news reports as proof of his story. Amazingly, his girlfriend mildly chided him to “just don’t do it again.”

The in-game chat logs were part of the mountain of evidence collected by the police. The pair pleaded guilty to the crime.

Ready yourselves, Perfect World International players, because great trials are coming your way. The latest update to Perfect World Entertainment’s trademark title brings players a new zone, known as Elysium Village, which will provide new quests and content for players level 100 or higher.

But the main attractions of the new update are the new Faction Trials, which are “a set of nine teamwork-based missions that will challenge even the most powerful faction.” Up to 100 players can take part in each trial, and the ultimate goal of said trials is to prevent the ominously named Grand Demon Lord from breaking through to the Perfect World. These aren’t the only new features being introduced with the update, so head on over to the game’s official site to see the full details, and don’t forget to check past the cut for a new trailer.

If you want to buy some wow gold Powerleveling and wow item, please click here.

Mists of Pandaria is bringing us the new monk class as well as the new Pandaren race, finally making its way to World of Warcraft after years of speculation and wondering. Blizzard Insider, Blizzard’s own internal look at the wheelings, dealings, and development processes of the company, pulled Lead Systems Designer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street aside and asked him a bunch of questions about the Pandaren, monks, and the newest expansion.

Ghostcrawler discusses the motivations behind the Pandaren and how they differ from the other races of Azeroth, how the monk class came about and was decided upon, and what monk players outside the Pandaren race will have in store for them when they travel the world. One of the more interesting pieces of information is how player character monks who choose to start as a race other than Pandaren will still have a heavy Pandaria-inspired kit and experience, since it is the Pandaren that bring the monk class to both the Horde and the Alliance. Of course, we have extra confirmation that DPS and tank monks will be sporting agility leather gear, and the healer archetype will don intellect-based leather gear.

I don’t believe that I am alone in this observation, but Blizzard has been out and about like crazy talking about the Pandaren and the monk class nonstop. Personally, I’m loving it. The more, the better. Over the years, Blizzard has gone from a very secretive company to pulling back many of the curtains for players and fans alike, with peeks into the development process and getting out ahead of the speculation machine. It’s learned a lot from The Burning Crusade and Wrath days. Hit the jump for the full interview with Greg Street.

Blizzard Insider interviews Greg Street on Pandaren and monksWith the launch of the next World of Warcraft® expansion, the Mists of Pandaria™ will lift to reveal the pandaren, a long-secluded race that has spent generations mastering the way of the monk — World of Warcraft’s newest playable class.

To get an inside look at the upcoming World of Warcraft race and class options, the Blizzard Insider recently sat down with Lead Systems Designer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street to discuss the design decisions that went into creating the pandaren monk. So read on, and be among the first to meet the brawling heroes who are, even now, secretly training within the mists.

Blizzard Insider: How will the pandaren race differ from the other races of Azeroth? What ideas are being explored for their racial abilities?

Ghostcrawler:Ultimately, the challenge with races is to make them feel unique without actually providing them with so much power that players feel like they don’t have a choice in which race they want to be. If tauren are the best warriors, then Horde players might feel like they are sacrificing too much in order to try out a different race or stick with a race they really like. With the pandaren, you probably won’t see anything so amazing that everyone gravitates to them… except that their art and animation is just so wonderful.

The biggest difference for the pandaren is that they can join the Horde or the Alliance, which is something we’ve never tried before. That alone will make them feel unique. They also have a very strong cultural kit. Our trolls might be somewhat Jamaican and the draenei have Eastern European accents, but the pandaren have a very strong Asian influence. That affects everything from their animations — which have a martial arts vibe, even for non-monks — to their hairstyles.

For racial abilities, we’re giving them a bonus to cooking… and to eating. We’re also giving them a moderate bonus to rested experience to make it less daunting to level one all the way up to level 90. They also get the mystical-martial ability to paralyze opponents by touching their pressure points. Finally, we came up with a silly racial, Bouncy, that causes them to take less falling damage. While the pandaren are as noble and epic as any of our races, we felt like we had to acknowledge their, shall we say, endomorphic body shape in some way.

Of course, as with any design this early out, this may all change by the time the new expansion goes live.

Insider:How did the team decide on monks as the new playable class? Were there any other ideas that were considered?

Ghostcrawler:We settled on the pandaren race first, and after that, the new class was a no-brainer. We actually did discuss whether World of Warcraft needed a new class at this time. As awesome as they are, it was disruptive to add the death knight, and it took us some time to get them feeling fun and balanced. Ultimately, though, we decided the time was right, and at that point the big decision was whether the new class would be a Brewmaster specifically, or a monk that you could play with a Brewmaster kit. At the moment, we’re going with the tank being the Brewmaster, but that could change.

Insider:How will the monk differ from other classes?

Ghostcrawler: We’re trying a few different things. For now, the monk has no auto-attack, which is unique among melee classes. The monk has a different resource as players might expect, where they have both light and dark resources that power different abilities. We are even trying to have the monk healing spec use a lot of punches and kicks. While monk characters will care about weapons, and weapons contribute to their damage and healing, you don’t see the weapons in a lot of attacks. We save them for some of the big finishers.

From a non-gameplay standpoint, the most noticeable difference is the huge number of animations the monk has. When you think of a magic-using class, you think of a lot of splashy spell effects. With the monk we thought it made more sense to invest heavily in animation, and the artists really delivered on that.

Insider:How are you structuring the monk’s talent tree?

Ghostcrawler: Well, the talent tree design overall is changing dramatically in Mists of Pandaria. Each class will just have one talent tree with a lot of attractive — and hard — decisions. However, like other classes, the monk will have three different specializations available at level 10. For now, we are calling these for the melee damage spec, Brewmaster for the tanking spec, and Mistweaver for the healing spec. The Brewmaster should have the feel of dodging and weaving in combat, reminiscent of the drunken master from martial arts flicks. The Windwalker will be the kung fu master who beats the crap out of opponents with fists and feet. The Mistweaver is partially the wise healer archetype, but like the old men in martial arts movies, he can beat down his enemies as well.

It’s also worth pointing out that even though many races can be monks, the story of the game is that it is the pandaren who introduce the ways of the monk to the Alliance and the Horde, so even non-pandaren monks will have a strong Pandarian — the continent — kit.

Insider:What are the challenges involved in adding a new class to the game? Were there any specific things you learned from the addition of the death knight class in Wrath of the Lich King that you hope to apply to the monk?

Ghostcrawler: Adding a class is one of the most challenging things we can do. There are a couple of mistakes we made with the death knight that we’d like to avoid. The death knight resource model, for example, ends up feeling really complicated. We also had some balance problems early on, partially based on — possibly biased — feedback that the death knight felt weak. We didn’t want our brand-new class to feel neglected, so we overdid it a bit. Then when we got them back in line, it felt to the death knight players like we had pulled the rug out from under them. On the other hand, the death knight is a really iconic character for World of Warcraft, and the class abilities and spell effects really deliver on that fantasy. We need to make sure the monk feels just as cool and really delivers on what players expect a monk to play like.

Insider:How will monks be itemized?

Ghostcrawler: They wear leather armor, so the tank and DPS monks will want the same Agility-based armor that rogues and Feral druids wear. The healing monk will want the Intellect-based armor worn by Balance and Resto druids. For weapons, the two signature items are fists and staves. At the moment, we are focusing the Windwalker on fists and the Brewmaster on staves, but we might give players more flexibility than that. The melee monks can also use weapons like one-handed maces, axes, and swords. The Mistweaver can use healer staves, maces, axes, and swords. Monks can’t use shields, and no melee class uses ranged weapons any longer.

Insider:Thanks for your time. Is there anything else you’d like to share before you go?

Ghostcrawler: One of the victories we had with the death knight came when we introduced a fun ability at relatively low level that became synonymous with the class. I’m talking about Death Grip, which lets the death knight yank enemies over to him. We decided we needed something similar for the monk, so we came up with Roll. Roll is like a combination between warrior Charge and mage Blink. Unlike those two abilities, Roll can be used sideways or backwards as well. It looks great to see a character, a pandaren especially, tuck into a somersault. It’s a lot of fun.

At the end of last week’s blizzcon, a new World of Warcraft expansion was announced, and it stirred up quite a ruckus, it can be said that this is a tumultuous week. Any time a new world of warcraft expansion is announced, a flurry of mixed feelings comes with it. Some players are very positive on the newly added Pandaren race, while others seem to have some pretty negative opinions about the pandaren and the expansion in general. The expansion is not released yet, it is too early to say for sure. Let’s look at the Mists of Pandaria objectively.
The new expansion, Mists of Pandaria should be a substantial addition to the game. An array of new features, content, and even a new class will be added to the next expansion. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, a few people see the pandaren as a joke. This is due in part to the race actually being a joke made by Blizzard on at least two occasions. Actually, the Pandaren have a long and storied history.
Early in 2005, the pandaren was first introduced in world of warcraft as a April Fool’s joke. The Pandaran were spokesmen for “Pandaren Xpress,” a service where players could buy real food in game. In fact, the Pandarens were, indeed, added to Warcraft III with the Frozen Throne expansion. Moreover, the Pandaren race can be found in the roleplaying game’s Manual of Monsters dating back to 2003. We can see that the new expansion is not a whim. Pandaren has always been in the world of warcraft.
Pandaren will be the first neutral race to explore Azeroth. Pandarens start at level 1 and choose to either side with the Horde or the Alliance at level 10. That’s a World of Warcraft first and should be exciting for lovers of the game. The new class monk will be specialized as a Windwalker while healers will be Mistweavers. These options make the class attractive to a variety of players. In a Challenge mode dungeon, players will be working toward completing the dungeon within a certain amount of time. The talent change coming with Mists of Pandaria is also a touchy subject, but as more information is released about the system more and more players start to realize that the change is probably a positive one.
All in all, Mists of Pandaria is an expansion full of features. The events of the pandaren campaign are so cool, and the pandaren are fascinating, they’re funny. Just think about the 85-90, new Asian inspired zones, Challenge dungeons, the pet battle system, and the new talents, new wow gold guide, if you still don’t like the idea, well, just skip this expansion. Ok, let’s cut to the chase, if you want to perfect your gaming experience, welcome to swagvault and pick up some cheap wow item and safe wow gold.

If you want to buy aion kinah, aion gold, aion online gold, please click here.

Oh, if only it were that simple! And quick. ‘Cause I got my hiking boots on and am raring to go. Heck, I will even wade through rivers of enemy blood to get me some housing! Now you all know what kind of statement that is coming from PvP-challenged me. Sadly, there is still a long wait ahead as there is no real official word on the release of 3.0 and its accompanying features. To be honest, with my all-too-obvious love of housing, I am not entirely sure that the information that trickled out of Korea this past week was more exciting… or painful. TEASE!!

Either way, there is no ignoring the fact that the tantalizing information has come, posted front and center on the Korean Powerwiki for all to see. Thanks to some kind translating, those of us not fluent in Korean can also get a glimpse at what NCsoft has in store for us. Truly, I think that it is only fitting that last week’s focus on a major frustration is followed up by something many are actually looking forward to! In all, some of the information revealed is exciting, some is pleasantly surprising, and some is even disappointing,

Excited about Aion’s upcoming housing or maybe just curious? Cross the threshold past the cut and join Wings Over Atreia as we explore the impending housing opportunities in Atreia.

Housing, schmousing

So what’s really the big deal? Why bother with housing in a PvP game? I know some people are rolling their eyes; they just don’t see any point to adding this feature to a PvP-centric game. So before we go any further, let me just throw something out there for those particular naysayers: Housing means more PvP.

No, I am serious. See, anything that brings more people into game or helps retain those who are already here is a boon to everyone — including the hard-core PvPers. More people means more enemy targets and more compatriots to hunt with. I know people just waiting for housing to drop so they can return to game. Sure, Daevas who are currently hanging out in their houses won’t be out-and-about and attackable, but no one is going to stay in his house forever. If nothing else, he will have to venture forth into the world to get some kinah for decorating and house upkeep! And then he will be vulnerable. So smile wickedly and think of all the new victims who will be available!

The rest of us can be excited for reasons not of slaughter but of creativity and immersion. There may even be more roleplay to be found (perish the thought!). I truly see this particular feature breathing more life into the game; housing in any form is a positive addition to games, and housing done right adds immensely to the immersion of a game. So is Aion’s housing done right? In some respects yes; in others… mmm not so much. Let’s start with some of the “Awwwww yeaaaaaahhhh” points.

Reasons to cheer

Score one for getting to decorate by placing things where you want. Given the wonderful environment, I was sorely disappointed with a certain other game that restricted what I could place where in my little Hobbit hole. By all appearances, Aion has avoided this pitfall. And not only can you place stuff where you want, but you can also rotate the furniture to get it to look juuuuust right.

Another key aspect is that you can visit your friends’ houses and they can visit yours. Nothing ruins showcasing your trophies and creativity like a house restricted to the player only! In fact, you can establish a bind of sorts with your friends; there is even a house item that will list all of your friends’ properties and allow you to visit (if the house permissions are set accordingly).

The next point was a pleasant surprise: While many games have allowed players to choose a certain house type, Aion is going further and letting you customize the exterior of the home with windows, roofing, and even paint! This level of customization is unusual but welcome. I have never been a fan of identical cookie-cutter houses, in life or in games.

Another very impressive feature of the housing is the ability to store things in a wardrobe. I know some Daevas who will probably need to stack wall-to-wall wardrobes just to have enough room for all of their cosmetic outfits! After all our begging and pleading for more storage space, this is actually a very welcome addition. And along those same lines, it also looks like the house has a separate storage for furniture that is not in use — meaning you don’t have to clutter your warehouse with it. Unfortunately, I am not sure if the items placed in the storage count toward the item limit, but I very much hope they do not.
Disappointments

Sadly, a few aspects of the housing were a bit disappointing. Foremost of these disappointments is the extremely limited number of the grandest of houses: the luxury mansion model. There will be only four per faction. I can appreciate that if the housing area isn’t instanced, there is a need to limit due to space… but four? Really? I mean, couldn’t more land be grafted into the game and developed? Four? If you couple this with the fact that all housing is auctioned (so the highest bidder gets the goods), I know I will never have one of these homes. In fact, I doubt that I can ever obtain anything in the higher brackets due to purchase price and maintenance costs since I am not the type of gamer who tends to be rolling in the kinah.

That brings us to maintenance costs. Now, I actually happen to agree with maintenance costs… to a point. The idea that players need to be active in order to keep possession of their house is very important when there is a limited number of houses available. Of course the active players should be the ones with the real estate. However, if the numbers are correct on the chart, then the luxury house is going to eat up over 22 million weekly. Skip paying for two weeks and your house will go back on the market. Don’t expect to get it back, either; with such a dearth of the higher-end houses, there will be plenty of players just waiting to snatch one up as soon as it becomes available.

Another extremely disappointing fact is the seriously low limit on the number of items allowed in a house. Really, 50 indoor furniture slots in the largest mansion? Compare this to the hundreds allowed in games with some of the best housing systems (Vanguard, Star Wars Galaxies, and EverQuest II). And from the looks of the chart offering the statistics, there is only one room in even that huge mansion. This is going to squelch a lot of creativity.

Another possible negative was not one of my own but rather was voiced by one particular player on the official forums: All of the housing shows a distinct lack of masculinity. Perhaps that is true. Then again, what aspects of Aion aren’t bent toward the beautiful if not more feminine side? You have to admit that very little screams “masculine” anywhere in this game. So it really isn’t a surprise that the architecture follows along the same artistic lines seen in the rest of the game. I think the response of another player illustrates this best: Krystaline noted with a wink, “Oh, open your fairy wings and shush.” It is also possible that the screenshots provided are only representative of the Elyos side, which is more sunshine and cutesy than the Asmodian, so maybe there is a slight possibility that the Asmodian houses will have a wee bit darker flavor to match.

Worth the wait?

When it comes down to it, any housing is better than none, and Atreia looks destined to have some very nice housing. Sure, there are areas I would love to improve upon, but overall I think the housing will be pretty dang spiffilicious. Not only that, but the more a person is bound to the game, the more time s/he will spend in it and the harder it is to just walk away. A personal space is specifically one of those ties that bind. I plan to enjoy this new feature with my friends the moment the devs let me get my wings on it.

Now, if I could just survive this wait!
