Bug reporting is rarely sexy, but it’s one of those necessary evils that comes with the territory when we’re talking about complex pieces of software like EVE Online. Bug reporting has also been something of a pain for CCP customers prior to this week, and hopefully that will change with tomorrow’s update.
CCP Redundancy has the details via the latest EVE dev blog, and the long and short of it is that there’s a new crash-reporting tool scheduled to go live on October 18th. The tool has been tested internally and is just now ready for prime time, and Redundancy hums a few bars relating to the whys, the hows, and the privacy concerns. You can read all about it at the official EVE website.

Want to own a real piece of Warcraft history? Ever wanted to own your entire server? Starting Oct. 17, Blizzard will be auctioning off the actual server blades of yesteryear to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. WoW has gone through a lot of technical changes over the years, and the old server blades are just that — old. What better way than to celebrate the early years of the game than to give the proceeds to such an important cause?
The auctions will last from Oct. 17 through Nov. 14, with each realm’s original server blade going on sale. What’s a server blade, you ask? Each server, with its own processing power and all that jazz, lives in a rack with other servers at the big server enclosure. Each auctioned server will have a little plaque attached with the server’s name, its dates of operation, and signatures from the team. This is really, really cool. If I had the cash to pony up for Frostwolf, my original server, I would. That thing broke so many times in the early days that I’d want to pop it open and see all the horrible, nightmarish things lurking inside.
Check out the auction information page for which servers will be auctioned off on which days.

“I think MMOs in general are in a rut. It’s still mainly WoW clones. A lot of people have done these games, but it’s been that same kind of gameplay, and that doesn’t mean that’s what it has to be,” says Gazillion’s David Brevik.
Who’s David Brevik?
Well he’s the president and COO of the company bringing you the free-to-play Marvel Universe MMO (yeah, the one where you can’t make your own character). More importantly — in terms of gamer cred — he also co-founded Blizzard North.
Brevik was recently interviewed about WoW clones, free-to-play business models, and everything in between, and you can read the full text at GamesIndustry.biz. You’ll need to register for an account to access the content, but registration is free.

As part of Mythic’s continued efforts to introduce a “New User Journey” experience that’s friendly to Dark Age of Camelot beginners, the studio has turned its attention to the ever-crucial subject of gear. In a new dev diary by DJ Frazier, the dev spells out the problem: “For a new player who wanders into battlegrounds, especially ones like Thidranki or Molvik, they will often find themselves losing almost every fight they encounter, simply because they are playing against people who have had a chance to outfit themselves out in the best equipment they can find for their level range.”
Because the team fears that this armor disparity proves to be a dealbreaker for many newbies, the devs are retuning the gear that players get during their leveling up process to be more durable and competitive on the battlefield.
The two main paths of leveling — PvE questing and RvR battlegrounds — will both offer solid picks of gear when patch 1.110 hits. Players who risk the battlegrounds will find themselves in possession of top-notch weapons and armor, whereas those who choose to quest will find themselves “90% of the way there” with their gear. Hopefully, these changes will create an environment that’s much more welcoming to newcomers to DAoC.

Faxion Online wasn’t the only UTV True Games project to be axed following the company’s acquisition by Disney. It turns out that Mytheon, too, is in the process of closing down for good.
In the sole announcement on the Mytheon forums, the team posted a note that the game would be spinning down starting this past July 27th in preparation for a final shutdown at an undisclosed date in the near future. Players can no longer register for the game nor download it. Mytheon planned to launch in 2010 but was kept in beta testing far past the projected release date.
This announcement ends on a bittersweet note: “Finally, we’d like to send out a huge thank you to all our players who’ve joined us on this journey. Keep challenging fate, The Mytheon Team.”

Woodz N the Hoodz went live on Aug 17,2011.This patch includes the release of the Wakfu and Stasis Islands, the mysterious Hoodlums, and so many more surprises that it’s hard to list them all! Wakfu’s producers were kind enough to release this teaser description of the Sadida Forest as well:
At the very edge of Bonta, you will find the Sadida Kingdom, firmly ruled by the gorgeous Queen Sheran
Sharm. Follow the trail of the formidable (yet adorable) Boowolves or improve your Lumberjack technique by cutting down some Ancestral Pines! But beware, the forest isn’t as quiet as it seems, and tension is growing among the Sadida people.
A good group of class modifications were also included for the Cra, Ecaflip, Eniripsa, Iop, Xelor, and Eunutrof classes. These changes have been long overdue and many in the community seem to be taking well to them.
The political system received some great additions, including 4 new laws available to regional governors. A lot of other changes have been made to the governor’s abilities to prevent various abuses and mismatched elections.

Materia, as we know, is the system’s tentative name, however FFXIV Producer Naoki Yoshida has let slip that
he’s partial to it. By using the armor and weapons that you equip yourself with, you will generate “attachment points” and when your attachment points reach 100% you will be able to convert that weapon or armor into “materia.” This is known as “materia conversion.”
“Materia” is a crystallized form of the weapon and armor’s stats that the player has used and formed an attachment to. During the materia conversion process, there will be fluctuations that result in NQ stat materia, as well as
HQ stat materia, even when using the same type of item. However, even the NQ stat material will have beneficial stats. Also, you will be able to purchase and trade materia freely.
Crafters will be able to utilize the catalysts that gatherers obtain and attach a single materia to an item Read more…

From EVE Online CCP,
With this release of patch 1.6, EVE team are introducing the new CarbonUI framework into EVE. You shouldn’t see much difference – with this round of changes we have fixed the underlying code, not the user interface itself.
This step was made possible by the UI corification that happened last year. This project was a big engineering undertaking that you can read more about below, to pave the way for taking the EVE UI into the future.
Why CarbonUI?
The UI in EVE is somewhat dated by now, and so was the underlying code that handled the rendering. Read more…

From Senior RuneScape Content Developer,

Runescape players will be able to choose their side in this traditional battle – spring or winter – by chopping down the rival season’s evil trees. All players will be able to chop down the wintry holly trees in order to help springtime emerge, while members will have the added option of felling hawthorn trees, to hold on to the bitter cold of winter. All of this tree chopping will be closely monitored by the Season Tree, the look of which will change between the seasons based on how many holly and hawthorn trees get chopped down.
Everyone who pitches in will earn this event’s cosmetic holiday reward; however, members will get the added option of giving theirs a useful function, by charging it with the ability to locate and teleport to RuneScape’s other evil trees. This works much like communing with a spirit tree, but can be done from anywhere. About a month after the Easter event Read more…
