The OnLive gaming platform officially launched in the US last year, bringing a new on-demand gaming service to homes with broadband internet connections. OnLive hosts and renders games on a computing cloud and delivers the resulting video feed over the internet. The potentially revolutionary system lets people play high-end games on low-end computers, but has a minimum bandwidth requirement of 2Mbit.
OnLive celebrated its UK release this week during Eurogamer Expo in London, and we were on the floor to ask the OnLive staff some questions about the service. Representatives were able to confirm that there are plans to bring MMOs to the OnLive service in the future but no solid deals had been made. The only thing keeping MMOs out of the game catalogue is the fact that no deals have been signed with MMO publishers.
OnLive representatives stated that it would be unlikely to see Activision-Blizzard’s games like World of Warcraft on OnLive, but that Star Wars: The Old Republic and other MMOs could eventually be licensed to both the PC client and the home console. Talks are already underway with Electronic Arts, which released its first game on the system this week to coincide with the UK launch. When asked about latency issues, staff explained that the service already supports a large number of multiplayer titles with similar connectivity requirements to MMOs and latency is not a problem in those games.

After the sheer confusion of tier 2.5, players had one more opportunity to get tier pieces in the form of tier 3, available solely from the 40-man version of Naxxramas. As of the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, Naxxramas relocated to Northrend and tier 3 went goodbye, to the disappointment of tier collectors. It’s been hinted that the new Darkmoon Faire in patch 4.3 may offer ways to obtain tier sets that are no longer obtainable — hopefully, this includes the long-lost tier 3.
Tier 4, on the other hand, was a step in a new direction. Players were no longer required to obtain additional materials to pick up their tier pieces; all they needed was their class token, and they were good to go. However, tier 4 wasn’t found in just a single raid dungeon; it was spread all over Outland in a series of introductory raids meant to prepare raiders for the rigors of Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, and eventually The Battle for Hyjal and Black Temple.
Tier 4 is scattered through three different raid zones, and today we’re going to venture into a zone that still stands out as a favorite in many raider’s eyes — the incomprehensible tower of Karazhan. Once the home of Medivh, Karazhan also offers a variety of cool weapons and off-set armor pieces along with the elusive tier 4.
Tier 3 and the progression to tier 4
It’s worth briefly mentioning tier 3, simply for what it did to contribute toward the way current tier sets are obtained.

Whether or not you’ve liked the direction Naoki Yoshida has chosen for Final Fantasy XIV, it’s hard to fault him for communication. His letters to the community have become a regular event, and even in the briefest installment he finds the space to share some interesting developments. The newest letter, for instance, is definitely on the shorter side, but it also confirms a target date of September 30th for the launch of the game’s next major patch.
Patch 1.19 is heavily anticipated by players, bringing with it chocobos, new content, and a variety of other systems. And not only is Yoshida planning to release the notes for said patch early, but the letter also hints at another major update — the addition of another 100 item slots for characters and 50 more for each retainer, greatly expanding each individual’s storage capacity. While the letter also notes that the patch may be delayed by a few days depending on the final round of testing, it should be enough for FFXIV players to see that the team is hard at work on the patch.

Guild ranking and progression tracking site GuildOx has assembled data on World of Warcraft’s most experienced raider in terms of boss kills — a Troll mage named Meltymon from the Destromath (EU) server. Meltymon has 5,389 raid boss kills, most on normal difficulty, going back to the beginning of the game’s raiding challenges. Now, while Meltymon isn’t the most experienced raider in terms of content completed, since heroic Ragnaros is still unaccounted for, the number of total raid boss kills over the lifetime of the character is still pretty impressive.
The most interesting part of the ranking on GuildOx is that the most raid boss kills do not come from characters in the cutting-edge guilds. In fact, most of the higher-ups on the list are from guilds doing normal content each week with a smattering of heroic kills thrown in. The larger, more progressed guilds tend to do the content on their mains until completion for world firsts and then swap to alts or take time away from the game until a new patch hits and new challenges appear. All of these new rankings on GuildOx are possible because of the new APIs we had talked about in the past and are really providing developers and site owners with some cool tools to play around with.

It is risky for online gaming and there are a lot of people that would like to get their hands on your account for a number of nefarious reasons. Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is no stranger to the dangers of compromised security following the cyber attack they suffered in April that compromised more than 100 million accounts across the Playstation Network and SOE services.

SOE recently added an additional security option for players with the new SOE Authenticator. Priced at $9.99, the SOE Authenticator will add a random password six digit pin code that will also be added with your SOE password when logging into a game.
SOE has also announced that a mobile authenticator will be available at a later date for iOS and Android devices. Currently the authenticator only works for PC accounts and not for the Playstation 3. More details here.

Eve Online is a much more complex MMO than many others. Here will give new players some info in the first few days and weeks of starting a character in Eve as easily as possible.
It is just meant to teach you how to get your character off the ground in areas such as – Making your character, Making Isk, Setting up your first ships, and other basic concepts.
As Eve tends to be more complex in many areas, there are many times in which the answer to a question will be. The situation and your skills are mainly Factors that affect your choice. Say you wanted to know if you should choose a Thorax or a Vexor for your next Cruiser, and you ask, “Which one is better?”In this case, it depends on your skills.
There are different weapons skills you can have, such as Missiles, Gunnery, and Drones. If you have high drone skills, the Vexor would be the ship for you, while, if you have high gunnery skills, the Thorax would serve you better. Read more…

Five people sit in comfortable leather chairs arranged in a semi-circle. The youngest examines an ancient piece of frayed cloth. “What is it?” he asks them. His clothing marks him as a Thunder Breaker.
The Night Walker among them raises his voice. “It’s a Cygnus Knight crest torn from a tabard. It was found many centuries ago atop the body of Ifnia, Queen of El Nath.”
The Thunder Breaker laughs. “There is no kingdom in El Nath,” he says.
The Blaze Wizard replies, “The story is that El Nath was supposedly the home of the Red Lion King, Von Leon. He was the first ruler to pledge himself to the Black Mage, and he launched an attack on the rest of Maple World. The Cygnus Knights fought back and eventually pushed him back to his kingdom. Rather than surrender, he cast a spell that supposedly killed every citizen of El Nath, turning them into ghosts and animal demons, and hid the kingdom away forever.” Read more…
