Think you’re a pretty good Flyff player? We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but your opportunity to call yourself among the best is pretty well fading. The first Flyff world championship is currently ongoing, with the sixteen finalists now competing for the opportunity to be crowned the best team of players in the world. Two teams have already been eliminated, with livestreaming coverage of the events available on the official championship channel.

But maybe you don’t consider yourself one of the best in the world and don’t usually care about these sorts of events. That’s all right — you’ve still got reason to enjoy it. EVE online
Source: EVE website

CCP has just announced its plans for EVE Online’s eighth annual Fanfest. The drunken buffoonery celebration will take place March 22nd through March 24th at the shiny new Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center in Reykjavik, Iceland.

CCP Tyr has posted the details on EVE’s official website, and there’s a loose itinerary that includes a poker tournament, a battle of the bands, chessboxing, and hey, there might even be some EVE- and Dust 514-related presentations and assorted tomfoolery if things go according to plan.

Tyr says that further info — including flight, accomodation, and access pass availability — will be forthcoming as the event draws closer.

Tales of Fantasy celebrates closed beta with guild event

April 20th, 2010

Tales of Fantasy has entered closed beta, and IGG is ready to celebrate the milestone. They’re sharing the party with the community in the form of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, a massive guild event.

The event is designed to encourage fans to play together as part of an active guild. The description might be a bit confusing, so here’s how it works: between now and May 14th, guilds will be ranked according to member levels. Your guild must have at least 40 members, and overall member levels need to total at least 1,000 to qualify. The event includes a screenshot contest for special in-game titles as well.

IGG has set up a ranking board, and every Friday it will be refreshed to reflect the current top guilds according to each guild’s total member level. Check out the ranking board page for all the details, and then rally your guild and get to playing! Good luck to all!

Around Azeroth: Magical thinking

January 15th, 2010

Looking at this picture, one can only presume that flight-form druids are like ants — they can carry many times their own weight in food. Druidess Hernia of on Skullcrusher-EU has captured a wild zhevra, which she will now bring to her nest, devour, and regurgitate to feed her family of little moonkins.

Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Dan Stahl talks Star Trek Online

November 25th, 2009

Eurogamer Portugal had the good fortune to chat with Cryptic’s Dan Stahl, the producer of Star Trek Online last week for an overview of the highly-anticipated MMO. The interview covered some ground we’ve seen before, some we have not, and gave his perspective about the creation of STO.

Eurogamer and Stahl talked about his view of things like ship customization vs. remaining true to the Star Trek “look”, combat styles on the ground and on ships, and general content. His enjoyment and pride on the game shines through clearly and makes the interview a fun read. “I really think that people who play the game for the first time will look at the game and say ‘Wow, they nailed it.’” The translation of the article can be read courtesy of Google Translate, with the original here.

Patch 3.2.2 known bugs

September 22nd, 2009

Each new patch seems to bring about its own unique bugs, and Patch 3.2.2 is no different. As of Tuesday evening there are significant lag and server stability issues plaguing Azeroth worse than that night Jaina spent with Arthas plagues her, but that should hopefully be resolved with the rolling restarts tomorrow (5:00 a.m. PDT / 8:00 a.m. EDT). The lag, not Jaina’s problem. That’s going to take… well, she should see a doctor.

There are currently two major issues Blizzard has announced.

The first is a series of display problems, which Blizzard recommends you do the standard deleting of the WTF, Cache, and Interface folders. Before you do that be aware that removing the folders will delete all your add-ons and add-on preferences. In my experience, you’re better off deleting the Cache folder and then updating all your add-ons, or just disabling add-ons which are out of date.

More detailed instructions for Windows and MacOS X can be found in Syndri’s post on the official forums.

The other issue that items which are tradable under the BoP rules are not able to be socketed. This appears to not be affecting everyone, however there is a work around in the following steps:

Enchant the item
Enchanting the item will remove the tradable timer, the BoP item will be bound to you and you won’t be able to trade it
Gem the item
You should be golden after you do those steps.

There are other problems out there that we’re getting reports of, however nothing else has been confirmed by Blizzard yet so it’s all conjecture at this point. If hear anything substantial or are able to independently verify bugs ourselves, we’ll let you know.

Final Fantasy XI: Beginner Guide Part Three

February 25th, 2009

So you’ve unlocked your sub-jobs and you’ve leveled through the Valkurm Dunes in the jobs you wish to carry on with? Then it’s time to move on to the next areas. The previous part of this guide was focused on getting yourself acquainted with the partying and leveling system, unlocking sub-jobs, and generally getting used to the activities that you’ll be immersing yourself in for the rest of your life here in Vana’diel. This final installment will be focused on moving on to the different leveling areas, and should inform on the things one needs to do until they reach level 30, and many new doors are opened to you in the form of over a dozen new advanced jobs!

After getting out of the Valkurm Dunes, the next area most commonly used for partying is an area named Qufim Island, located right off of Jeuno. The tricky party here is reaching Jeuno without dying repeatedly. To get to Jeuno you’ll have to travel through one of three routes, depending on your starting country. If you’re from San d’Oria, you’ll go through the La Theine Plateau to the Northeast, and follow the road through Jugner Forest right into Batallia Downs. Once there, travel to the East, avoiding monsters all the while, and eventually you will come across the gates into Jeuno.

If you’re from Windurst, you’re looking at one of the more rough routes. Through Sarutabaruta and North through Tahrongi Canyon until you reach the Meriphataud Mountains. Sticking to the left side of the road through the Meriphataud Mountains should keep you safe from most enemies, but the next area, Sauromugue Champaign, is notoriously difficult to navigate. Not only will you have the displeasure of evading Goblins, Yagudo, and Dancing Weapons, you’ll have to avoid several dinosaur monsters and tigers as well. Taking it slow and sticking to the left most of the time, you should be able to reach Jeuno with some patience.

From Bastok, it’s somewhat difficult, but anything is easier than the Windurstian route! Heading through South Gustaberg, go straight through North Gustaberg and travel Northeast through the Konschtat Highlands into Pashhow Marshlands. This is the only abnormally difficult area on the Bastokan route, really, as every which way is crowded with monsters. There are three paths through the marsh, a small passage sticking to the left side, the main passage through the middle that is rather large, and a smaller passage sticking to the right, and neither way is easy. To the left you’ll run into fungaur, bees, among other things, in large quantities, crowding the passage. The main passage is wider, giving you more room to maneuver, but the larger area also holds larger monsters such as Goobbue, Marlboro, and several other disasters waiting to happen. This one is probably your best bet. Once out of the marsh, just follow the road up through Rolanberry Fields, avoiding Quadav when needed of course, and you’ll reach Lower Jeuno in no time. Head down through Port Jeuno and descend another set of stairs and you’re in Qufim Island.

Final Fantasy XI: Rise of the Zilart Missions Guide

February 25th, 2009

A lot of people who play Final Fantasy games or RPGs in general do so for the
story. And that’s what Rise of the Zilart is trying to give here: a story.
That, and the good feeling of killing something that’s been blocking your story
progression.

If playing Final Fantasy XI for the story isn’t what you’re looking for, then
you’re probably better off playing World of Warcraft or Guild Wars.

===================
A Note on Positions
===================

Throughout my guide, I’ll be using coordinates, such as G-7 or L-2. These
coordinates refer to your position on your map. You can check your position
by typing <pos> or by looking at your map by using the /map command. Note that
if you have no map for the current area you’re in, it will simply display a
map page with “No Map”in capital letters across the center. Your position
will still appear in the upper left area of the map.

=====
Terms
=====

Here’s a brief explanation of some game terms I’ll be using in this guide.

Aggro: A monster that will attack you while you either stand, sit, heal, or
cast magic close enough in front of it.

Buff: Casting spells that are beneficial to the party, such as protect, shell,
and haste.

Damage Dealer: Any job that can dish out the damage. Jobs sought out as
damage dealers are ninjas, samurais, dark knights, thieves,
black mages, red mages, warriors, monks, and beastmasters, but
it can pretty much include any job depending on what type of
partying you’ll be doing (i.e. skill up party, experience
party, etc.)
