It’s a good time to be an Aion fan, what with the recently released 2.7 update adding some new content to the world of Atreia and the buzz surrounding the forthcoming 3.0 patch building day by day. It’s also a good time to return to Aion if you’ve been away for a while, as NCsoft is throwing a gaggle of bonuses your way over the next few weeks.

Every weekend from now through December 6th, you’ll enjoy double gathering, crafting, and slaying XP. There are also time-played bonuses that reward arena tickets, enchantment stone boxes, and manastone boxes in two-, four-, and six-hour increments each day. Finally, the Daru Days festival starts on November 23rd, and daevas who are willing to complete the Daru quest series will receive a Silver Fur Daru clothing set for their trouble. Head past the cut to see NCsoft’s new Aion promotional video (if you dare!).

If you want to buy aion kinah, aion gold, aion online gold, please click here.

Oh, if only it were that simple! And quick. ‘Cause I got my hiking boots on and am raring to go. Heck, I will even wade through rivers of enemy blood to get me some housing! Now you all know what kind of statement that is coming from PvP-challenged me. Sadly, there is still a long wait ahead as there is no real official word on the release of 3.0 and its accompanying features. To be honest, with my all-too-obvious love of housing, I am not entirely sure that the information that trickled out of Korea this past week was more exciting… or painful. TEASE!!

Either way, there is no ignoring the fact that the tantalizing information has come, posted front and center on the Korean Powerwiki for all to see. Thanks to some kind translating, those of us not fluent in Korean can also get a glimpse at what NCsoft has in store for us. Truly, I think that it is only fitting that last week’s focus on a major frustration is followed up by something many are actually looking forward to! In all, some of the information revealed is exciting, some is pleasantly surprising, and some is even disappointing,

Excited about Aion’s upcoming housing or maybe just curious? Cross the threshold past the cut and join Wings Over Atreia as we explore the impending housing opportunities in Atreia.

Housing, schmousing

So what’s really the big deal? Why bother with housing in a PvP game? I know some people are rolling their eyes; they just don’t see any point to adding this feature to a PvP-centric game. So before we go any further, let me just throw something out there for those particular naysayers: Housing means more PvP.

No, I am serious. See, anything that brings more people into game or helps retain those who are already here is a boon to everyone — including the hard-core PvPers. More people means more enemy targets and more compatriots to hunt with. I know people just waiting for housing to drop so they can return to game. Sure, Daevas who are currently hanging out in their houses won’t be out-and-about and attackable, but no one is going to stay in his house forever. If nothing else, he will have to venture forth into the world to get some kinah for decorating and house upkeep! And then he will be vulnerable. So smile wickedly and think of all the new victims who will be available!

The rest of us can be excited for reasons not of slaughter but of creativity and immersion. There may even be more roleplay to be found (perish the thought!). I truly see this particular feature breathing more life into the game; housing in any form is a positive addition to games, and housing done right adds immensely to the immersion of a game. So is Aion’s housing done right? In some respects yes; in others… mmm not so much. Let’s start with some of the “Awwwww yeaaaaaahhhh” points.

Reasons to cheer

Score one for getting to decorate by placing things where you want. Given the wonderful environment, I was sorely disappointed with a certain other game that restricted what I could place where in my little Hobbit hole. By all appearances, Aion has avoided this pitfall. And not only can you place stuff where you want, but you can also rotate the furniture to get it to look juuuuust right.

Another key aspect is that you can visit your friends’ houses and they can visit yours. Nothing ruins showcasing your trophies and creativity like a house restricted to the player only! In fact, you can establish a bind of sorts with your friends; there is even a house item that will list all of your friends’ properties and allow you to visit (if the house permissions are set accordingly).

The next point was a pleasant surprise: While many games have allowed players to choose a certain house type, Aion is going further and letting you customize the exterior of the home with windows, roofing, and even paint! This level of customization is unusual but welcome. I have never been a fan of identical cookie-cutter houses, in life or in games.

Another very impressive feature of the housing is the ability to store things in a wardrobe. I know some Daevas who will probably need to stack wall-to-wall wardrobes just to have enough room for all of their cosmetic outfits! After all our begging and pleading for more storage space, this is actually a very welcome addition. And along those same lines, it also looks like the house has a separate storage for furniture that is not in use — meaning you don’t have to clutter your warehouse with it. Unfortunately, I am not sure if the items placed in the storage count toward the item limit, but I very much hope they do not.
Disappointments

Sadly, a few aspects of the housing were a bit disappointing. Foremost of these disappointments is the extremely limited number of the grandest of houses: the luxury mansion model. There will be only four per faction. I can appreciate that if the housing area isn’t instanced, there is a need to limit due to space… but four? Really? I mean, couldn’t more land be grafted into the game and developed? Four? If you couple this with the fact that all housing is auctioned (so the highest bidder gets the goods), I know I will never have one of these homes. In fact, I doubt that I can ever obtain anything in the higher brackets due to purchase price and maintenance costs since I am not the type of gamer who tends to be rolling in the kinah.

That brings us to maintenance costs. Now, I actually happen to agree with maintenance costs… to a point. The idea that players need to be active in order to keep possession of their house is very important when there is a limited number of houses available. Of course the active players should be the ones with the real estate. However, if the numbers are correct on the chart, then the luxury house is going to eat up over 22 million weekly. Skip paying for two weeks and your house will go back on the market. Don’t expect to get it back, either; with such a dearth of the higher-end houses, there will be plenty of players just waiting to snatch one up as soon as it becomes available.

Another extremely disappointing fact is the seriously low limit on the number of items allowed in a house. Really, 50 indoor furniture slots in the largest mansion? Compare this to the hundreds allowed in games with some of the best housing systems (Vanguard, Star Wars Galaxies, and EverQuest II). And from the looks of the chart offering the statistics, there is only one room in even that huge mansion. This is going to squelch a lot of creativity.

Another possible negative was not one of my own but rather was voiced by one particular player on the official forums: All of the housing shows a distinct lack of masculinity. Perhaps that is true. Then again, what aspects of Aion aren’t bent toward the beautiful if not more feminine side? You have to admit that very little screams “masculine” anywhere in this game. So it really isn’t a surprise that the architecture follows along the same artistic lines seen in the rest of the game. I think the response of another player illustrates this best: Krystaline noted with a wink, “Oh, open your fairy wings and shush.” It is also possible that the screenshots provided are only representative of the Elyos side, which is more sunshine and cutesy than the Asmodian, so maybe there is a slight possibility that the Asmodian houses will have a wee bit darker flavor to match.

Worth the wait?

When it comes down to it, any housing is better than none, and Atreia looks destined to have some very nice housing. Sure, there are areas I would love to improve upon, but overall I think the housing will be pretty dang spiffilicious. Not only that, but the more a person is bound to the game, the more time s/he will spend in it and the harder it is to just walk away. A personal space is specifically one of those ties that bind. I plan to enjoy this new feature with my friends the moment the devs let me get my wings on it.

Now, if I could just survive this wait!

Aion’s patch 2.7 is here, and a healthy number of new features has arrived along with it. Players can now take part in the Crucible Coliseum PvP arena or test their mettle in the Arena of Discipline for one-on-one battles. If you’re more interested in a no-holds-barred battle royal, the Arena of Chaos may be more your style, as it features a six-player death-match battle. Balaurea’s PvP battles have seen a number of refinements and adjustments as well.

If you’re more of a PvE sort of player, you can bring some friends to Padmarashka’s Cave in hopes of taking down the legendary creature for loot and glory. A number of skills have been adjusted as well in hopes of creating a more enjoyable, balanced gameplay experience. Aion players can scour the whole of the new patch notes over at the official site.

Time to double the candles on the cake for Aion! That’s right — just two short years ago on September 22nd, the world of Atreia opened its skies to a swarm of aspiring Daevas. After a rocky start including horrendous launch week queues, some Daevas folded their wings and left for bluer skies (*cough cough* nothing to see here, move along) while others stuck it out through thick and thin and grind. But even of those who flitted off, many found their way back into Aion over the last two years. And why not? Much has changed.

In the past year, NCsoft has added and tweaked the game to make it a better experience for veteran and returning players alike. And that is on top of the many additions brought about in the game during the first year! This is not your 2009 game; Aion has more content and more options. Sometimes, less is even more — there is even less grind.

Now what’s a celebration without… celebrating? NCsoft is offering goodies galore to citizens of Atreia throughout the month-long anniversary celebration. And so that no Deava is left out of the festivities, a 10-day reactivation event will take place beginning at 11:00 a.m EDT on September 22nd and running until 11:00 a.m. EDT on October 2nd. All inactive accounts in good standing on or before September 14th are eligible for reactivation.

Wondering what exactly you are missing? Catch a breeze and float past the cut as Wings Over Atreia looks at how Aion has evolved over the past 12 months as well as what gifts, goodies, and events await Daevas during the celebration.

A lot can happen in a year

Truer words can’t be said; 365 days is a long time and NCsoft has taken advantage of it by making Aion a better game. Sure there are still improvements to be made, but if you haven’t set foot in Atreia in a while (or ever for that matter), now is a good time to check it out.

Early in Aion’s second year, a new security system was introduced to help prevent account theft. The measure has been quite a success, reducing hacked accounts significantly. Chances are much better that any characters you left way back when will still be there and fully clothed!

Probably the biggest change to hit Aion during the last year was the release of Empyrean Calling in May. One of only two updates to be bestowed the honor of a name, patch 2.5 introduced more content to the game as well as a new graphics engine to make it more aesthetically pleasing. A new Balaurea fort instance, Esoterrace, gave Daevas another way to obtain AP and coveted platinum medals while the Empyrean Crucible gave groups an arena-style challenge pitting them against numerous bosses in order to earn special tokens. These crucible insignia can be exchanged for eternal grade gear, pets, or even vanity outfits.

The new instances weren’t all that was added; new pets, a new pet system, legion updates (including size, permissions, and new legion clothing), a new way to enhance weapons and armor (conditioning), and added skills are a few more of the changes. Eclipsing these, however, is the addition of mentoring. More than any other single change, this one breathes new life into the game because it allows people to group up and help anyone, regardless of level, without any penalty. In fact, there are rewards aplenty for mentors and mentees alike with the daily and weekly mentoring quests. Now players can join the game anew or return and still be able to play with their friends!

A creation incentive program (benefiting mainly Asmodians) was also instituted in an effort to bring balance to the servers in order to bolster one of the most important aspects of the game: PvP.

However, NCsoft didn’t stop there, and patch 2.6 hit servers in August. Offering a new solo instance (Crucible Challenge), a new auto-grouping mechanism, new godstones, and fabled loot chests in Steel Rake and Fire Temple tied to your class, crafting updates, and a plat-pooping poppy, this patch gave Daevas just that many more options. And don’t forget, Stormwing got easier!!

Whether this next bit is an improvement or an annoyance is a matter of opinion: Aion’s cash shop — the NCstore — expanded exponentially, offering once restricted pets along with limited editions of outfits, dyes, and even dances.

A final addition worth mentioning is the increase in events. Last year’s anniversary piece noted that “Aion does not have a good track record for successful and engaging live events.” This past year, however, NCsoft has worked to remedy that by offering more events, including a fashion show. Some events were a frustrating lag-o-rama (hold on to your party hats ’cause it’s happening again!), but some of them aimed to increase participation in key elements of the game (such as reduced AP loss in certain areas). Want to experience some of these events for yourself? Well, come on! Plenty are planned for the next few weeks.

Celebrate good times, come on!

In celebration of its second anniversary, Aion is running not one, not two, but five separate events — and that is not including the reactivation event! What can Daevas look forward to?
9/7 – 10/5: Picking Up the Past Community Event (collect fossils by defeating monsters and bosses and trade them in for clothing, medals, and gift boxes).
9/21 – 9/28: For War and Glory AP Event (increases the amount of AP gained from defeating monsters in the Abyss and Silentera Canyon and also reduces the amount of AP lost from dying in PvP in both places).
9/21 – 10/5: Increased XP.
9/21 – 10/5: Increased drop rates.
9/21 – 10/26: Ascension Festival Anniversary Event (collect Ascension Energy every 20 minutes by just being logged in and trade in for costumes, hats, and gift boxes).
9/28 – 10/5: Behind Enemy Lines Rifting Event (removes the defensive buffs in Heiron and Beluslan).
All Daevas will also receive reactivation surveys each day of the reactivation event. Luckily, these surveys will stack, so if you miss a day (say, by losing power or some nonsense), you can still receive all the gifts. Are the gifts worth getting? Well it starts with a pet so heck yah! The full list is as follows:
9/22: Inquin pet.
9/23: Ascension Energy x 50.
9/24: 15-day recovery serum x 1.
9/25: Enchantment stone box x 1.
9/26: Major ancient crown x 3.
9/27: Mystery gift.
9/28: Felictous socketing supplements x 2 (Eternal or Fabled).
9/29: Manastone bundle x 3.
9/30: Emotion Card: Hug Me.
10/1: 30-day title (4% attack speed, 4% cast speed, 4% run speed).
And if you decide to remain in Atreia after the free activation period, you will receive:

10/2: Three major ancient crowns, echantment stone box and your choice of either five platinum medals, 10 gold medals, or 10 silver medals.
Not enough? Then venture outside of the beautiful lands of Atreia and participate in the many contests that will be run on the forums. There will be daily contests with prizes including white, pink, and black dyes as well as outfits like the sailor and fall ones.

Honoring the vets

Of course new or returning blood is certainly good for the game, there are those who have stuck it out since before the easy button was pushed. For those hardy Daevas, some nice veteran rewards were announced. And we aren’t talking about just a couple of things. Every Daeva who hits his 24-month mark will receive five platinum medals, three major ancient crowns, five Morati’s secret remedy potions; four revival stones; five felicitous socketing supplements (increases the success rate for manastone socketing of eternal items to 100%), a great expand cube card (woot!), an expand warehouse card (double woot!), and the coveted level 55 eternal wings (the Lucky Wings). Not a bad haul! As with all veteran rewards, these will be per character. *curses self for canceling for one month*

Come and sit (or fly) a spell

Are you liking the sound of all these changes and the many gifts and events taking place? Are you tempted to don wings and dive back into the fray? Then do it! Jump on in and check things out for yourself! Remember, there is no cost to you to check out all of the changes over the last 12 months and catch up with old friends during the free reactivation event. Been reluctant to give Aion a try? Come on, give it a go. Now is a really good time to test those wings out (and I happen to have it on good authority you can find the game for just 10 bucks at some stores!).

I tell ya, if I weren’t a current subscriber, I would so jump on this chance. But even if I can’t get free reactivation, I do get to partake of everything else during the celebration! And I am a sucker for surveys. *grin* I am looking forward to seeing you all there. Let’s PAARRTTTAAYY!!

You’ve been asking for it, and we were listening. In patch 4.3 you’ll be able to customise the appearance of your weapons and armor like never before.
The Ethereals, emerging from the nether, will bring with them a new technology they call Transmogrification. They’re heading to the capital cities of Azeroth to set up shop and to offer adventurers a unique service – copying the appearance of one magical item onto another. They only ask for a modest gold donation to recoup their costs.

Visiting a Transmogrifier will present players with a new interface that will allow them to change the appearance of an item while retaining its original stats. This means that you can raid in your paladin tier 12 Immolation set, but look like you’re wearing Lightbringer, while priests can bring Benediction back – at least in spirit. Hunters can once again roam the jungles of Stranglethorn Vale in their tier 2 Dragonstalker set. You could even slip into the saucy tailored Black Mageweave set for that matter. You know, with the thigh-highs, and the little gloves, and the cute little… ahem.

Placing an item into the Transmogrifier interface will offer a preview of how the item will appear once the change is applied. However, not all item pairings are compatible with Transmogrification. In general, only items that have stats can be used in the transmogrification process. You must also be able to wear both items when using this service. Ethereals don’t have much in the way of ethics, but allowing someone to appear as if they’re equipping unusable items crosses the line. Similarly, they won’t allow you to change weapon or armor types. Sneaky death knights can’t make that breastplate look like a cloth robe, and you can’t make a one-handed axe look like a two-handed axe, or transform a sword’s appearance into that of a mace. Guns, bows, and crossbows will be the exception to this rule. You will finally be able to retain your dwarf’s racial gun bonus while appearing with all the splendor and elegance of a bow wielder (or at least the relative silence of one).

Placing items into the Transmogrify interface will increase the gold cost of the process, and clicking the Transmogrify button (assuming you have the necessary funds) will put the appearance change into effect. The process can be reversed by clicking the undo icon on each item, and then hitting the Transmogrify button once more to save the changes. Any item that’s transmogrified will have text indicating it’s been altered by the process for all to see, similar to the item tooltip callout for reforged items.

Transmogrification encourages players to hold onto items with sentimental or aesthetic value, and the Ethereals anticipate that personal bag and bank space will be at a premium now that everyone will be hoarding their frilly pantaloons and leather jerkins. In anticipation of this new demand for additional storage space, they’ll be introducing a unique Void Storage service. What’s Void Storage, you ask? We’ll provide more details soon.

We’re looking forward to seeing how players choose to customize their character’s appearance, and hope you’re as excited as we are for the arrival of patch 4.3 and the Transmogrification feature. Do you have a favorite set or weapon that you’ll be bringing back? Let us know in the comments below.

We’ve been hit with a ton of patch 4.3 news today, from previews of all of the new 5-man content to the new loot distribution for tier pieces coming with the next raid encounter. Now, players are given a sneak peek at the raid instance for patch 4.3, Dragon Soul, where heroes from the Alliance and Horde will face off against Deathwing himself.

Three difficulties of Dragon Soul will be available out of the gates, including normal, heroic, and the new Looking For Raid difficulty intended to give players an easier time with casual raiding in a new, less raiding-severe setting. The raid begins at Wyrmrest Temple, where Thrall has successfully delivered the Dragon Soul that was nabbed out from under Malfurion long ago in the Caverns of Time instance The Well of Eternity. The aspects are all there, ready to deal the final blow. First, however, players face off against 6 bosses, and then two encounters against Deathwing.

The first fight is a mighty elemental, Morchok, who attacks Wyrmrest itself. Players then face off against Warlod Zon’ozz, Yor’shaj the Unsleeping, and Hagara the Binder, all minions of the Old Gods assisting Deathwing in his plans to destroy Azeroth. Ultraxion, a dragon of immense dark energy, will attack players on Wyrmrest, followed by an army of Twilight’s Hammer drake riders led by Warmaster Blackhorn. Most interestingly absent is Chromatus, the great 5-headed chromatic dragon who first appeared as an enemy in Christie Golden’s Twilight of the Aspects, and was pegged to be a raid boss in the coming patches.

Finally, players will take the fight to Deathwing himself, landing on his back for the first part of his encounter and then attacking him in his final form on the edges of the Maelstrom. I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am for these final raid encounters from Cataclysm. Way to turn up the epic, Blizzard.

Patch 4.3 Raid Preview: Dragon Soul
World of Warcraft patch 4.3 will offer players the opportunity to take the fight to Wyrmrest Temple and beyond, assisting Thrall and the Dragon Aspects as they seek to bring an end to the Black Dragonflight once and for all. 10- and 25-person raids will get to take on Deathwing himself, with three levels of difficulty to consider and epic gear to claim.

Forged by Deathwing during the War of the Ancients, the Dragon Soul harnessed the power of the other dragonflights, until it was ultimately destroyed. After recovering a version of the artifact from the Caverns of Time, Thrall and the allied dragonflights now rally at Wyrmrest Temple in a desperate bid to use its might to defeat Deathwing.

Created by the titans as a sanctuary for all Dragonkind, the crumbling Wyrmrest Temple is now the final hope for the forces allied against the black dragon Neltharion, once the Earth-Warder and protector of Azeroth, now Deathwing the Destroyer. It is here that the remaining aspects — Alexstrasza, Ysera, Nozdormu, Kalecgos, and Thrall — have gathered to empower the Dragon Soul — Azeroth’s last chance to stop the great behemoth. As they begin to charge the Dragon Soul with energy, Deathwing and his entire army assault Wyrmrest Temple. Players must thwart the attacking forces long enough for Thrall to charge the Dragon Soul.

Before you face Deathwing the Destroyer, you must prevail against six mighty bosses.

The most powerful elemental still under Deathwing’s sway, Morchok — once a passive guardian — is now convinced that his only respite will come with Azeroth’s demise. Morchok rages against the foundation of Wyrmrest Temple, Azeroth’s last beacon of hope in the Hour of Twilight.

Countless ages ago, Warlord Zon’ozz and his soldiers waged endless war against the forces of C’Thun and Yogg-Saron. Millennia have passed, but the warlord still serves the chaotic might of the Old God N’Zoth. Deathwing has now unleashed this legendary faceless one to crush the defenders of Wyrmrest Temple.

Since the fall of the Bastion of Twilight, Yor’sahj the Unsleeping has eagerly assisted Deathwing, providing the Destroyer with the means to release more faceless ones from their prisons deep beneath the earth. Their numbers are endless and their power is beyond reckoning, and Yor’sahj intends to reap a grim reward for his faithful service.

Hagara the Binder, one of the first students of arcane magic under the Forsaken, showed surprising potential for one who had started learning so late in life. But in her undisciplined attempts to bind elementals into servitude, she was ensnared and twisted by the Windlord, Al’Akir. Now fiercely loyal to the Twilight’s Hammer, Hagara binds others for her elemental masters to torment.

More an abomination of dark energy than a dragon, Ultraxion has spent his short life absorbing the essence of captured nether dragons. Ultraxion is the only twilight dragon Deathwing has praised, and his arrogance is overshadowed only by the crackling energies surging through his twisted form. Loyal to his master, Ultraxion swears to bring about the fall of Wyrmrest Temple.

Though once vast in number, only a few dozen twilight dragons now remain. Astride these hardened survivors are the last vestiges of the Twilight’s Hammer’s army: the elite drake riders of Deathwing’s personal escort. Led by the insidious Warmaster Blackhorn, they move with unholy purpose, driven to protect their dark master.

When Deathwing first channeled the Dragon Soul’s power against the other dragonflights, the massive energies that he unleashed threatened to break him apart. Rather than forgo this weapon, he had adamantium plates fused to his scales to hold his body together. Later reinforced with elementium, these plates are now his weakness — the sole vulnerability to Deathwing’s lethal presence.

Your assault on the massive Deathwing will begin a battle unlike any other. It is a fight so wide-ranging and intense that it comprises two unique encounters, taking place across Azeroth. Taking to the skies, players will parachute from soaring gunships to attack the monster mid-flight and attempt to weaken him by ripping away his armor, exposing the molten flesh beneath. Should they succeed, they will plunge into the depths of Maelstrom for the final encounter.

No adventurer has yet taken on an enemy so large and dangerous and lived to tell the tale. Will you?

Check out our previews of the forthcoming 5-person dungeons, End Time, Well of Eternity, and Hour of Twilight.

from the Aion Community Team,

The Picking Up the Past event runs from Wednesday September 7th, 2011 to Wednesday, October 5th, 2011. Researchers from Elysea and Asmodae have undertaken a bold new project—cataloguing Atreia’s history in a new Natural History Museum!

The competition is fierce, with both Elyos and Asmodians striving to make their museum Atreia’s first. Armed with a careful eye and a sense of adventure, it is up to Daevas to uncover fossils and support their researchers.

While finding fossils might sound as simple as picking rocks off the ground, most of the best specimens have been unearthed by monsters and instance bosses, which only the bravest Daevas will be able to retrieve.

Museum curators are offering grand rewards to the Daevas who gather the most fossils, so grab a shovel and get to it!
