Blizzard to fix exploit with Diablo III’s votekick system

January 8th, 2013

From massively.com

Crap. Everyone else hates me so I just... froze like this. Could you demons stay put for a few seconds until we can get back to fighting? Or... yeah, rip out my viscera, that's probably better.Playing Diablo III in Hardcore mode is a harrowing experience. No matter how good you are as a player, there’s always the real worry that one careless move will mean the end of a character you’ve worked hard to level. Unfortunately, sometimes that careless move is simply playing in a public game, as griefers have been exploiting the votekick system to cause players to die and lose everything through no fault of their own.

As it currently stands, a player who has been kicked by popular vote will be rooted in place for 10 seconds while the character is ejected. Griefers have used this to kick players in the middle of monster-heavy rooms, resulting in 10 seconds of uninterrupted monster beatdowns with no chance of reprieve.

So how to fix this? Well, Blizzard plans to remove the 10 second lockout in the near future to ensure that a kicked player can still move and respond rather than get pointlessly murdered. There’s no word on whether this will be a hotfix or rolled into a larger patch, but it’s definitely on the horizon. Until it goes live, though, you might not want to have your hardcore characters on a public game.

Something Important about D3 Hardcore

September 14th, 2012

I have played HC for about one month. Two heroes are dead: a Barbarian (Lv55) and a Witch doctor (Lv42). My current hero is a Barbarian.

Here is my HC experience about these two classes.

1. You can be relaxed before Lv50. Double-handed weapon is okay. You just need to take long several life-saving skills: leap, shielding, spirit walk (Witch doctor’s necessity) and so on. The main power of the equipments should be intelligence and then the armor.

2. You have to play with a shield after Lv50. You will find everything is different in Hell difficulty. The 3 affixes are golden blue. And the damage is improved (it is still easy in Act1). If you cannot defeat them, you’d better escape or rebuild. After all, the account has existed for 20 hours. It will be a pity to lose it.

3. I find that Witch doctor has a good performance in HC. He is powerful in the middle stage. He is always safe with a pet and acts soon. You’d better choose Witch doctor if you don’t like Barbarians or Monks.

4. Do your best to upgrade the chest, which should be done sooner or later. Save some remaining potion, gems and equipments, which is good for your next hero.

5. You’d better inlay experience gems on the helm. The bigger the better before Hell difficulty. Use blood gems after Hell difficulty.

6. There are terrible monsters in each act (all are after Hell difficulty). In Act1, Barbarians are afraid of the cattle rushing to everywhere and the white monsters with spurs. In Act2, bees and tuning Blademaster need your attention. In Act3, the monsters with two hammers are terrible.

7. When you are in Hell or Inferno difficulty, you will encounter Frozen, Jailer, Arcance, Fire chains and other skills with high damage. If you cannot deal with them, just escape. Don’t be too brave in Hardcore mode.

8. Switch your skills in time. For example, if the hero is a Barbarian, left click to use Cleave to kill mini monsters and use Frenzy when BOSS doesn’t have mini monsters. If the hero is a Witch doctor, it can summons an army to rush to BOSS.

9. This is my experience of playing Hardcore. My Witch doctor died of server lag. My barbarian died because it went to challenge Belial when in Lv55. Others usually challenge Belial when they are in Lv60 or above. So you should know that good network and running shoes are very necessary.

10. This is what I can recall now. I will supplement from time to time.

Diablo3 Auction House Turns Players Into Slaves?

June 30th, 2012

If you want to buy some Diablo 3 Gold USA Diablo 3 Powerleveling please click here.

If you’d like to read a wildly-biased rant against the business practices of the Diablo III Real Money Auction House, you’re in luck, since one has just popped up. The author structures it like an unethical lawyer offering a vicious closing argument; it’s close enough to the truth that you can’t point to any outright lies or errors, but he shades everything away from objective reality, puts the worst possible interpretation on all events and motivations, discards all mitigating facts, etc.

For bonus points the comments are full of haters who lap it up and shout at anyone who points out some of the dubious claims. A quote to give you a taste of things, and you can read the rest if you feel the need. Thanks to Paul for the tip.

In other games, where black market trade is rife, bots are obviously frowned upon. In D3, where there’s a minimum price for gold — where Blizzard always gets at least 15% of every transaction — bots don’t matter. They can’t ruin the economy — they just stand to make Blizzard more money. The best bit, with regard to bots and gold farmers, is that they’ve known from the start that the RMAH would come — and so they’ve saved up billions of gold and awesome magic items for one truly epic payday.

Blizzard even gets its pound of flesh from quitters: If you quit, of course you’re going to sell all of your items on the RMAH. Furthermore, Blizzard has said that, in the future, you’ll be able to sell entire characters on the RMAH.

…Finally, just to tip you over the edge, think about this: What if Blizzard itself started selling gold and items on the RMAH? The FAQ states that “at this time” Blizzard doesn’t do this — but in the future, who knows? The Diablo 3 auction house is anonymous — the seller is never listed — and so Blizzard could easily sell gold and items without anyone noticing. What if Blizzard decided to sell special items on the RMAH? Uber-fans of games and franchises will pay almost anything for unique or exclusive items.

Ironically, the Auction House remains one of the more popular features of the game, with lots of disenchanted players spending more time in the AH than in gameplay. This despite the fact that (IMHO) the AH has done more than anything to ruin the gameplay experience for thousands of fans who played too much, too fast, too easily, thanks to too good of equipment (courtesy of the GAH) and have thus already grown bored with the game.

Patch 1.0.3 released for Diablo III complete with an interesting new bug

June 20th, 2012

The pseudo-MMO nature of Diablo III makes it unsurprising that the development team is still hard at work with polishing patches. The newest patch, 1.0.3, has just been released, bringing with it several adjustments to classes and individual boss battles. It also expands the range for potential high-level item drops, allowing players a better chance at seeing top-end items without reaching Inferno Act IV. Along with the usual bug fixes, it should be all good news, right?

Unfortunately, it looks like the patch has brought an odd glitch along for some players — namely, a glitch preventing them from gaining any experience. Player testing seems to reveal that changing your password fixes the issue and allows you to gain experience once again, and the issue is only affecting players with a digital version instead of the game discs. While no official word has come down from Blizzard as of yet, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the issue hotfixed in the near future.

Special Diablo 3 items available for Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition buyers

June 18th, 2012

null

The dedicated Diablo III fans at, uh, Diablofans.com have unearthed some files for the forthcoming patch 1.0.3 that reveal a few neat in-game bonuses, presumably intended for purchasers of the Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition:
A new Feat of Strength, Panda-monium, which is achieved by registering a copy of the MoP Collector’s Edition.
A new banner sigil and accent combo featuring a panda face and some pandaren-style linework.
A pair of black demon wings, along with the string “SpecialGiftWingsBuff_name – Collectors Edition Buff.” Unlike the banner options and the Feat of Strength, there’s some speculation that this may not be a MoP CE reward, but the string at least raises that possibility.
If you’re interested in extra items, you might want to consider buying the Collector’s Edition. While the details haven’t been announced yet, Wowhead recently found a quilen mount and pet that may be among the in-game CE bonuses.

Five Diablo III Wizard myths tested and debunked

June 17th, 2012

When building your Diablo III Wizard, you have two main schools of thought on weapon type: use a high-damage two handed weapon with low attack speed or use a one-handed weapon and offhand and stack as much attack speed as possible. Items with increased attack speed on them greatly increase damage per second on paper, but there is some confusion in the Wizard community as to which spells are affected by it. Some players contend that Blizzard and Hydra are unaffected by attack speed; others report that channeled spells ignore both critical hit chance and attack speed.

To find out the truth, I bought a two-handed weapon with 0.9 attack speed and a one-handed weapon with 1.6, both with the same rated damage per second. I then tested every spell on the zombies at the start of Act 1 in hell mode dozens of times and checked the damage difference, finally adding attack speed rings and amulets and re-testing both weapons. For almost every spell, the one-handed setup dealt lower damage but hit more frequently, averaging to the same damage per second. But the story was a little different for Hydra, Blizzard, and channeled spells.

In this guide, I put five popular Diablo III Wizard myths to the test and discover the inner workings of Energy Armour, Hydra, Blizzard, Critical Mass, and other abilities.

Diablo III pulls trigger on NA real-money auction house

June 12th, 2012

If you want to buy some Diablo 3 Gold USA Diablo 3 Powerleveling please click here.

While Diablo III released weeks ago, Blizzard’s held off from launching the game’s controversial real-money auction house in North America for its own reasons. All must be good on the studio’s end, however, because the auction house has gone live in the game as of today.

Unlike the traditional in-game auction house, the real-money variant deals in actual currency (such as USD). Players can sell their hard-won goods for cash, which can then be either spent on the auction house, sent to their own personal PayPal accounts, or converted to Battle.net Balance credit.

The real-money auction house requires additional setup if the players have not attached a PayPal or authenticator to the account. Blizzard does take its cut, and business must be good: There are reports of items going for over $200 already.

Since its release, Diablo III has had problems with the commodities on the auction house. Having been inaccessible for nearly two and a half weeks, we have now received an update on its status. Many noticed that they activated the function prior to this official announcement, but you’ll see a bit more information on how its changed since it was last available.

Diablo 3 Server Maintenance Planned

June 4th, 2012

Blizzard have announced servers are scheduled to go offline on Wednesday (US) for maintenance. Whether that means the patch we reported on last week is being rolled out or simply, well I don’t know what else could need maintaining. Whatever it is the servers will be offline for around 6 hours.

US Servers – Wednesday 6th June 5:00AM PDT to 11:00AM PDT
No word on when the EU servers are going offline.

Diablo 3 Forum Watch: Could We Find More Like That?!

May 28th, 2012

null

If I were to provide a list of all the good threads in our Diablo III forums of late, that post would take days to write and hours to read… at which point I’d have to start over again, in painting-the-Brooklyn-bridge style to cover the 5000 more posts made since I began writing the previous one. So don’t consider this a best of; just a sample of some good reads that are active right now. These are mostly from the Diablo 3 community forum, but you might find posts more relevant to your interests in the Diablo 3 strategy forums, where there are dozens of new threads every day in all the class forums, Hardcore, Stats/Theorycrafting, etc.

swayzesghost started one of the funnier threads I’ve seen since release in which fans are complaining about and celebrating the maddening and yet somehow enjoyable way the Followers repeat the same few lines of dialogue over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Why? Because that’s how we do it in Kingsport!
Kaeros started a thread that hit upon a few issues I’ve been thinking about since release. Is the Auction House the source of all Diablo 3′s item problems? The extreme scarcity of legendaries makes sense if you assume Bliz meant them to be super-rare so they wouldn’t immediately clog the AH. And the GAH is behind many of the difficulty complaints, since as soon as a player gets into NM and then Hell, it’s easier to farm gold for an hour and buy a weapon that’s vastly better than anything you’d ever find or craft at your level. Also, you can buy high quality gems and items for a lot less gold than it costs to train the Blacksmith/Jeweler, much less roll and reroll to get the item you want.
On that issue, Mrjones wants to know if you think the Auction House is cheating? I wouldn’t say it’s “cheating” since it’s not against any game rules, but it’s certainly a very good way to corrupt (or accelerate) your play experience, since you can so easily obtain items that will push your characters well out of the designed DPS/exp/difficulty curve. I have personally bought and sold nothing in the GAH post-release, and done very minimal self-twinking, since I’m trying to see how the actual game balance and difficulty curve works as I level up self-found characters. Yes, I’ll probably regret not racking up easy millions during these early days of economic chaos. Hell, I already regret that Azzure is doing so, since he keeps ****ing telling me about his millions in profits.
All that said, I think we can all agree that the RMAH is a better funding method than having to pay a monthly fee for D3 would have been… right?
Marshmallow started an informative thread to talk about rare and random events in Diablo III. There are so many unusual and odd ones in Acts One and Two, before you get that sense of rushingtothefinish you got in D2, where Acts 3 and 4 seem to lack the care and variation and bonus features (and destructibles) that filled the first two, much-more-polished acts.
Yovargus started a thread for everyone to share their favorite monsters from Diablo III. Lots of different monsters named, including Grotesques, Treasure Goblins, and those guys with one really long subterranean arm you get on the Act Three surface.

Blizzard talks Diablo III hotfixes, delay of real-money auction house

May 26th, 2012

null

In a post on the official Diablo III forums earlier today, Community Manager Nethaera addressed a few of the concerns that have been brought up in the game’s momentous first week.

Neth first linked to an up-to-date list of hotfixes that have been implemented thus far. For the spoiler-wary among you, be warned that if you haven’t completed the game on Normal difficulty, some of the hotfixes might be spoilerific. Now that you’re thoroughly warned that there may be spoilers, head on over to the list of hotfixes if you dare. Neth also advised players that additional server maintenance will be required in time and that there’s a game patch inbound for sometime next week.

She also took the time to address the real-money auction house. Although Neth states that the service is “coming soon,” it’s been delayed due to post-launch difficulties. The team apparently needs “a bit more time to iron out the existing general stability and gameplay issues” before the real-money auction house is ready for launch. Players shouldn’t expect the auction house to be ready in May despite initial plans for it to go online on the 22nd, and there wasn’t a solid date to look forward to.

Diablo III Becomes Fastest-Selling PC Game Ever

May 25th, 2012

If you want to buy some Diablo 3 Gold USA Diablo 3 Powerleveling please click here.

I am not surprised when I see the numbers at all. My guess was that Diablo 3 would sell at least 4 million copies day 1 so I was not that wrong in my prediction. In the first day Blizzard sold 3.5 million copies of Diablo 3 and this did not include the WoW Annual pass with its 1.2 million subscribers. One week later and there are more than 6.3 million people playing Diablo 3 and it is still growing. The game placed itself as the fastest selling PC game ever and Amazon’s most pre ordered PC game ever.
