Incarna haters rejoice! OK, maybe rejoice is too strong a word, but surely the return of ship spinning is worth a smile or two, amirite?
Today’s second piece of EVE Online news comes courtesy of Torfi Frans Olafsson’s latest blog post. In it, he mentions how CCP is rethinking its captain’s quarters design and working toward reimplementing the ability for bored pod pilots to rotate their cameras around their active ship while docked. The ability disappeared with the introduction of full-body avatars in last summer’s Incarna expansion, and Olafsson says that soon “you will simply be able to board and unboard your ship, toggling between captain’s quarters and ship spinning mode.”
Incarna’s hefty graphical requirements have also inconvenienced players logging in via “craptop” portable computers that lack gaming-quality hardware, and the post says that fixes for this are on the way as well. Finally, there are a few blurbs about improvements to captain’s quarters shaders and new turret graphics. Read all about it at the official EVE website.

from EVE Online CCP,
EVE and DUST 514 Players are on two different platforms – PC and PS3 will be able to communicate and affect the others, this sounds amazing. But how exactly will EVE and DUST 514 players interact with each other? CCP just uncovered part of the secret.
EVE Gate serves as the communal hub for EVE pilots and DUST soldiers. According to the developer, “this is where players from both games can manage their contacts, check in-game mail (when not actually in-game), post on forums, check their calendar for upcoming events or post new events of their own to the calendar.” More features will be added as the development goes on, and some will be DUST-specific, such as battle heatmaps. The next EVE Online mass test will take place on Thursday, August 18 at 20:00 UTC, and will be held on the Singularity Server. EVE team will look at changes to the docking and undocking process along with general performance in fleet fights. The SisiLauncher tool is available for this test.
They need at least 350 players to come out and test but 550 would be the ideal number for this test. Testing should last between 60 to 90 minutes and all participants will receive two million skillpoints on Singularity.

Eve Online is a much more complex MMO than many others. Here will give new players some info in the first few days and weeks of starting a character in Eve as easily as possible.
It is just meant to teach you how to get your character off the ground in areas such as – Making your character, Making Isk, Setting up your first ships, and other basic concepts.
As Eve tends to be more complex in many areas, there are many times in which the answer to a question will be. The situation and your skills are mainly Factors that affect your choice. Say you wanted to know if you should choose a Thorax or a Vexor for your next Cruiser, and you ask, “Which one is better?”In this case, it depends on your skills.
There are different weapons skills you can have, such as Missiles, Gunnery, and Drones. If you have high drone skills, the Vexor would be the ship for you, while, if you have high gunnery skills, the Thorax would serve you better. Read more…

From EVE Online CCP,
With this release of patch 1.6, EVE team are introducing the new CarbonUI framework into EVE. You shouldn’t see much difference – with this round of changes we have fixed the underlying code, not the user interface itself.
This step was made possible by the UI corification that happened last year. This project was a big engineering undertaking that you can read more about below, to pave the way for taking the EVE UI into the future.
Why CarbonUI?
The UI in EVE is somewhat dated by now, and so was the underlying code that handled the rendering. Read more…

When we first heard about Incarna, it was as “Walking in Stations” back in 2006. At the 2006 EVE Online Fanfest, details of the ambitious project were released to excited fans, which was followed by a lengthy devblog from CCP on what would be involved.
On June 21st EVE will open up the interiors of space stations for players to start exploring EVE Online in a completely new way.
Pioneering our first steps into Incarna will be your new Captain’s Quarters –a station-bound seat of power that provides a refuge from the dangers of space and a powerful command platform placing precious information at your fingertips.
They made a quick video sneak preview of Captain’s Quarters. If you are interested in seeing the work-in-progress, check their test servers. Read more…

Why Hounds?
Learning how to produce your own hounds will be an obvious asset to players that like flying them, and in most areas of the game will also be able to act as a significant income supplement. Because the skills needed to make a hound are a bit more laborious than those needed to start flying them, this guide is particularly useful for players that already possess a repertoire of industrial skills who would either like to start PvPing or are looking to supply tech two ships to friends. Making hounds can also be handy for industrial pilots that live in null-sec and would like to produce war ships locally.
Overview Of Making Tech Two Blueprints
In order to produce hounds, you will need a blueprint. The invention process attempts to convert a breacher blueprint copy into a hound blueprint copy. Because there is only a moderate chance of success, many attempts are usually required, especially if multiple blueprints are desired. The invention process requires many ingredients, most of which are consumed in the attempt. Read more…

When it comes to collecting aid for disaster relief, EVE Online developer CCP Games has a unique way of helping players donate. While many MMOs ask for donations or release limited-edition cash shop items, CCP has managed to devise a way for players to donate in-game currency to help people in the real world. During the relief effort for last year’s earthquake in Haiti, CCP began accepting donations of 30-day Pilot’s License EXtensions (PLEX) for their full monetary value in game time. With the recent devestation in Japan, CCP has once again asked for the EVE community’s help to raise money for relief aid.
Each PLEX bought on the in-game market and donated to charity represents 30 days of game time that someone in the world originally paid for with cash but that won’t be redeemed into game time. Because of this, CCP can donate the full cash value of that game time to a registered relief charity without taking a big loss. CCP absorbs all management and tax fees to ensure that 100% of the donated game time’s value is passed on to registered charities (in this case, the Red Cross). Read more…

Fanfest 2011 is just a few weeks away, and I wanted to share a few thoughts with you about it and why you, no matter the personal or professional cost, should join us to celebrate the serious business of internet spaceships. Fanfest is about celebrating EVE Online and about making it better. The first was a lot larger than we’d expected and it has only grown exponentially since. As hundreds of pilots from all walks of life and all corners of the Earth (and the EVE universe) come together, a deep, volcanic like power is born. A real, palpable force that stirs the fires within. It’s impossible to conceive of until you experience it. People from across the globe descend upon Iceland, a country that has fewer people than there are EVE pilots. Amazing.
And there you are in the middle of it—a player who, if you are extremely lucky, knows a dozen EVE players in real life. Suddenly you’re surrounded by hundreds of others who, like you, have built their own experiences out of EVE’s sandbox. For me, it was a complete shift in how I regarded EVE, even though I loved it so dearly before. After my first Fanfest it seemed so much bigger… Read more…

When you first enter the character creator screen, you’re confronted with a blank canvas of an avatar — relatively featureless and bereft of hair or modest clothing. While it’s tempting to start sorting through the pretty hair styles and the currently limited selection of clothing choices, these are finishing touches that are best left until later. Pay close attention to the shape of your character’s face, remembering that in this first design stage you’re seeing a very neutral expression. If you make an angry face or a squint at this stage, your character will always have it. All changes made to one side of the face are automatically propagated to the other, keeping the face neutral and symmetrical.
The key things you’ll want to modify here are the nose, jaw line, cheekbones, the position of the eyes, and the position and size of the mouth. Rotate the character around frequently to see how it looks at different angles and under different lighting conditions. Looking at it in a side-on profile is also a handy way to check whether the nose, chin and eyes look the way you want. When you’re happy with the way the face looks, move across to the complexion menu on the right-hand side and try out some of the options. Adding some aging or scarring will give your character’s skin some much-needed texture, making it look a bit more realistic and interesting. Leaving all of these options at zero can produce an odd porcelain-doll effect that robs a character’s face of a lot of personality.
