Korean online gaming giant Nexon has raised $1.17 billion from its initial public stock offering. The filing stated that Nexon has 1.2 billion registered players, 77 million of which were active as recently as September 2011. CFO Owen Mahoney says the company’s expertise made it an attractive proposition for new shareholders. “We can really bring a lot to the table. We know how to tune a game so that people will play it for months on end,” he explained.

Nexon’s IPO was the largest on the Tokyo Stock Exchange this year, and as a result the company is now valued somewhere between $7.69 billion and $8.97 billion according to GamesIndustry.biz.

Even so, Nexon’s stock price slipped by 3.9 percent on its first day of trading.

MapleStory adds the Cannoneer

Are you ready to solve all of your problems with the application of cannons? Up until now, MapleStory has allowed players to solve maybe a fifth of all your problems via the application of cannons. But the newest character type in the game, the Cannoneer, solves the vast majority of his problems via… well, you can guess. He also makes use of bombs and perhaps the odd aerial bombardment as well, just in case you wanted to diversify your problem-solving skills a bit.

To show off this first update in the Legends patch, we have posted not one, not two, but three videos just past the break. There is, of course, a gameplay trailer for the Cannoneer and a trailer for the patch as a whole. But there’s also the “audition” trailer for the Cannoneer as the staff at Nexon tries to decide on the next class to add to the game. Check out the videos just past the break, and get ready to open fire.

MapleStory breached, 13 million accounts exposed

November 28th, 2011

If you want to buy some EVE iskor EVE item, please click here.

The famously hacked Sony has a sympathetic shoulder this week, as Nexon recently discovered a massive breach that’s exposed over 13 million MapleStory player accounts to cyber ne’er-do-wells. Discovered this past Thursday, the breach was solely limited to South Korea, as Nexon hosts separate countries on their own servers.

This means that any South Korean MapleStory player’s information is at risk, including user IDs, names, passwords, and residential registration numbers. This information could potentially be stolen and used for a variety of crimes.

While there’s been no word whether actual personal information has been stolen, Nexon nevertheless urged these 13+ million subscribers to change their passwords. The company has contacted the police to ask for a formal investigation.

This comes at an unfortunate time for the company, as Nexon is poised to present its IPO on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December.

MapleStory Server Upgrades

September 20th, 2011

MapleStory server maintenance for approximately 12 hours for Server Upgrades.

MapleStory has been live for over 6 years and during those years we have made tons of updates including our milestone v1.0 update that we celebrated not too long ago.

This maintenance is a massive upgrade to ensure that MapleStory can run strong for the next many years. During the downtime, many teams will be hands-on, including the Maple team, IT and software engineers, as well as our developers from abroad. On the day of the server upgrade we will be on the forums running events and hanging out in Sleepywood.net’s IRC channel if you’re in the mood to chat.

MapleStory Adventures scores 3 million players — before it even launches

MapleStory Adventures scores 3 million players -- before it even launches

The Facebook spin-off of MapleStory has hit a big milestone today — a very big one indeed. Nexon announced that MapleStory Adventures crossed the three million registered player threshold. This feat is more incredible when you consider that the game is still in open beta.

MapleStory Adventures is Nexon’s first Facebook game, and it is soon to be joined by the company’s second: Wonder Cruise. Nexon’s been making strategic moves into the social gaming market this year, including a recent partnership with developer 6waves Lolapps. The company saw an impressive 59% increase in revenue last quarter.

MapleStory was an obvious choice for a Facebook conversion, considering that the title was already in 2-D and has a mass-market appeal. While MapleStory Adventures is similar in many ways to its predecessor, some elements have been simplified for the platform, such as the number of classes and skill trees.

These mutants however are much more powerful than their counterparts and will prove to be quite the challenge. Nexon: The Difference Between Maintenance and Game Updates

April 12th, 2011

From The Nexon Team,

As part of our continuing live service of the game, game servers are occasionally taken offline. MapleStory is comprised of a complex series of computers, some which function as game servers, others as databases and more. Nexon uses every downtime to perform various activities such as routine server and network maintenance, game updates, or even firmware updates like you would on your router at home.

They hope that we can clarify what’s the difference between a Scheduled Maintenance, an Unscheduled Maintenance, and a Game Update to provide more information for our players. Read more…
