TERA news is coming fast and furious lately, and luckily for En Masse, today’s blurb is a good one. The game is officially available for pre-order, and as you would expect, there are all kinds of options relating to various gifts and gadgets depending on where (and what version) you purchase. There’s also a bit of beta bribery in the form of automatic access to all five of the closed testing phases that begin this month and continue through April.

What about the editions?

Well, you can choose between standard, digital collector’s, and physical collector’s version, and the latter two come with an in-game mount and a couple of unique necklace items. The physical collector’s edition justifies its $79.99 price point with a cloth map, a soundtrack CD, a handbook, a compass, and a letter of marque. En Masse is also offering a couple of exclusives for purchasing directly through its online store.

THQ CEO Farrell takes 50% pay cut, board of directors also takes cuts

THQ is definitely experiencing some troubles related to its uDraw flop and subsequent layoffs, as evidenced by a new document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
President and CEO Brian Farrell will take a pay cut for the year starting February 15, which reduces his salary from $718,500 to $359,250. His salary will go back up the next year.

His golden parachute has also been tailored a bit more closely, as the payment he’d receive upon departure from the company (either termination “without cause” or resignation with “good reason”) has been cut from three times his highest-ever bonus to just his highest-ever bonus. This is, of course, a small sacrifice compared to the THQ employees whose salaries went from “some” to “none.”

The board of directors is also seeing some cuts: all the other directors have “elected” to receive 50% less cash compensation for a year effective today.

Browser-based FPS sets world record for simultaneous players

A new world record for simultaneous FPS participants was set over the weekend. Man vs. Machine, a browser title from MuchDifferent, is the new champion thanks to its ability to support 999 players on a single battlefield at the same time.

MuchDifferent CEO Christian Lonnholm says that Man vs. Machine smashed the previous record of 600 simultaneous combatants held by Sony Online Entertainment’s PlanetSide, and he also viewed the event as a resounding success despite missing the stated 1,000-player goal by a single digit.

“I am very proud that we could show the world such a massive game with no lag and great responsiveness,” Lonnholm said. “We never managed to get the full thousand, though, because of the inherent unpredictability of the internet with players constantly timing out and logging out.”

Head past the cut for a video of the record-setting event.

Dutch Supreme Court declares RuneScape theft a real-world crime

Is stealing a virtual good deserving of a real-world criminal sentence? According to a recent ruling by the Dutch Supreme Court, the answer is “yes.”

The court recently upheld a ruling of a criminal case in which teens attacked another youth and forced him at knifepoint to relinquish his possessions in RuneScape, including an in-game amulet and knife.

The incident happened in 2007, and a lower court convicted the two thieves in 2009. One of the defendants then appealed to the country’s supreme court on the grounds that the stolen goods “were neither tangible nor material and, unlike for example electricity, had no economic value.”

However, the judges declared that these virtual items had value because they represented “time and energy invested” to acquire. The thieves were sentenced to 144 hours of community service.

If you’re a fan of the classic Grand Theft Auto games (the popular ones, not the older ones that nobody played), then we may have some good news for you as an MMO player. A new update has been released for the Multi Theft Auto mod (v1.3) that introduces voice chat, bringing us that much closer to a true GTA MMO.

The wildly popular mod for GTA: San Andreas adds multiplayer functionality to the original Rockstar game, which was released just over seven years ago. It also includes a full map editor, dedicated Windows server package, and everything else you need to rat-a-tat-tat your friends in a simulated Dr. Dre album setting.

Sound like a good time? Check out a video sample after the jump, and head over to the official website for more info.

More often than not, when the subject of recruiting comes up, guild leaders can easily explain what they don’t want from a potential member. We’ve all seen the usual reasons for wanting to turn someone away, and there have even been a few write-ups that neatly label and describe troublesome members. But what qualities define “good” members?

Sometimes, it’s harder to pinpoint what makes a good guildmate, and the saying “I know it when I see it” usually results. But there are certain types of people that really make a difference in a guild, no matter what playstyle, and we have to look no further than the film The Seven Samurai for a rundown of those types. Recruit these seven members and you’ll be well on your way to creating a great guild atmosphere that will last. Let’s look at who they are in today’s Guild Counsel!

Just in case speculation for Guild Wars 2′s launch date wasn’t running quite rampant enough, Amazon.de has begun taking pre-orders for the game. Furthermore, the site claims a launch date of June 30th, 2012.

Community members have already picked up on it, but is there truth in the date? We checked in with NCsoft West for the official word: “We have not released an official launch date within 2012 as feedback from our closed and open marketing betas will help us determine an exact release date. We will release Guild Wars 2 when it is ready.”

We do know that the Guild Wars 2 development team is revving up for plenty of beta testing in February, March, and April, and the company has confirmed that GW2 will launch this year.

Microsoft files complaint over fake Halo 4 beta domain

If you want to buy some wow gold or wow item, please click here.

Believe it or not, there are evil people on the Internet who use misinformation and deception to steal from the innocent and well-meaning. We know, we couldn’t believe it either, but it’s the truth, as recently demonstrated by an outbreak of fake Halo 4 beta test invites.

343 Industries’ creative director David Ellis was quick to debunk the bogus site, but the URL used in the phishing scam (halo4beta dot net) is still out there, tempting fate with its Halo-oriented name and un-Microsoftness. Who knows what nefarious maleficence the domain could be used for if left in the wild, so Microsoft has filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum in order to have the domain name transferred to its ownership.

In situations like this, the company filing the complaint has to be able to prove that the domain in question was registered maliciously in order for the Forum to decide in its favor. Under the circumstances, we feel like global fraud will probably be malicious enough to sway things in Microsoft’s favor.

Guild Wars 2 devs name their nine favorite skill combos

We’ve heard plenty about Guild Wars 2′s dynamic content, branching storylines, and lack of a holy trinity, but one feature that hasn’t seen a lot of coverage is the game’s combo system. The combo system is really exactly what it sounds like: It allows a player (or multiple players) to meld different abilities into one powerful gestalt of an attack.

A new article over on IGN gives players some insight into the ArenaNet devs’ favorite skill combinations, such as the mixture of a Necromancer’s Well of Darkness and an Elementalist’s Churning Earth. Used separately, the Well of Darkness blinds players within its area of effect, while Churning Earth causes large amounts of AoE damage. When cast together, though, the addition of Well of Darkness adds another powerful AoE attack to ensure that anyone standing in the area of effect has a really bad day. To get a look at the other eight favorite developer skill combos, just click on through the link below.

The world (wide web) of Amalur grows as 38 Studios works on its MMO

With Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning just around the corner and Project Copernicus waiting in the wings, 38 Studios is fattening its golden website for the upcoming feast. The studio has expanded the site devoted to the world that both of these games inhabit, and those looking for hints and portents of the studio’s upcoming MMO would do well to seek lore within its pages.

Describing the website expansion as a “treasure trove” of new info, 38 Studios has added new landing pages, navigation features, and information about one of the game’s races: the Gnomes. The Gnomes are described as “an enigmatic people. They bestow wondrous gifts of knowledge, medicine, and magic to befriend the other kingdoms, yet seldom reveal their plans or intentions to outsiders.” It’s interesting to note that the Gnomes are divided up into three casts, which does tempt the mind into thinking the word “classes.”

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the single-player RPG that’s meant to fill the role of a prologue — in both real-world and in-game time — to the much larger Copernicus MMO.

Free for All: A second look at Fallen Earth’s free model

January 18th, 2012

If you want to buy aion kinah, aion gold, aion Powerleveling, please click here.

I used to be head-over-heels in love with Fallen Earth. I was on an immersion kick and had even designed a set of rules that dictated how my character would “live” in the world. Fallen Earth provided me with a lot of great tools to become immersed, and it was the type of game that really stuck out from the pack. Of course, it also sported uglier character models than Lord of the Rings Online and was more brown than a bakery at the earlier levels, but it was neat.

I gave up on the title after a while and became too busy with other games to return. Then, the free-to-play version of the title came out. I still ignored it because of scheduling, but recently I have been returning to it. I am finding a lot of bugs and an overall lack of polish that I had forgotten about, but it’s still a really cool game.

So how does the free version stack up to the subscription model? How free is it? Let’s take a look.

Pathfinder Online takes a look at death

If you want to buy some EVE iskor EVE item, please click here.

No matter what happens, sooner or later you’re going to die in an MMO. It’s pretty much a given. So it’s probably for the best that the fourth developer blog on Pathfinder Online is all about death — what happens when you die, what happens when another player kills you, and what you can do about it.

The death system is reminiscent in some ways of what would happen on death in EverQuest. You respawn at a predetermined location, and while you keep any equipment you were wearing, the rest of your inventory is on your soulless husk of a body. Retrieve it first and you get everything back. If someone else loots your body first, though, he or she gest a random assortment of items from your inventory and the rest are destroyed.

The blog entry also covers the issue of bounties, player-killing, and attempting to dissuade others from killing players in lawful regions. Players can set bounties on their killers, potentially refreshing the bounty each time said killer is successfully killed in retaliation, making a bounty hunter or group of same very rich indeed. Those interested in Pathfinder Online should check out all the details and keep watching as the game moves through development.

Massively tours Fiesta’s new Expedition to Adealia

Who doesn’t love checking out a game’s new content? I love it, for sure. So I was more than happy to sit down and ride along with the developers of Fiesta as they showed off their new expansion, Expedition to Adealia. The tour wasn’t all rainbows and kittens, that’s for sure. I found myself surrounded by towering monsters, crazy children brandishing giant knives, and massive, fire-breathing boss-monsters. It was fun, but I had no idea this cute Anime title could be so hardcore!

Luckily for me, my hosts had the ability to heal or resurrect me when needed. I didn’t do too shabbily, though, and I shot arrows like bullets, bringing down every mighty beast I came across. It was fun, yes, but a real slaughter. Well, for the monsters at least.

And for those of you who’d like to host your own dance party in the game, Outspark was kind enough to provide Massively with plenty of goodie bag codes to give away. To get this free item, head to the redemption page and enter the item code MassivelyFiesta. You have until the 31st of January to redeem it.

Journey on to see just what I found during my tour of the Adealia expansion!

PlayStation 4 at E3 Story is Bogus, Says Sony

That out-of-nowhere, weirdly unsourced claim from British biz site MCV last week bluntly stating we’d see Microsoft’s next Xbox and Sony’s PS4 at E3 this summer? Baloney, says Sony (about the PS4, anyway).

“I don’t think we’re contemplating talking about anything to do with future console iterations at this point,” Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House told CVG, noting that Sony is “just entering into this great period for PS3.”

Late last week, MCV wrote a story titled “Next Xbox AND PS4 set for biggest ever E3.” The rest of the story? Just a few paragraphs claiming the same, without so much as a single “our sources tell us” or “supply chain members reveal.” (Hey, the Internet…claim anything!)

If the PlayStation 3 marked your introduction to the Killzone series, it looks like you’ll finally get a shot at trying the original. After spotting a listing for the first Killzone on the ESRB, Game Informer has confirmed with Sony that the 2004 Helghast extermination simulator is indeed headed to PSN. The title will be a port of the original PlayStation 2 Killzone, so we wouldn’t expect any extra bells or whistles.

Killzone will hit PSN on January 24 for $10.
