If you’re a huge comic-book fan, then there’s definitely something to be said for playing a comic-book MMO. When you’re a serious role-playing fiend who loves comic books, it’s even better! Today’s picturesque Champions Online One Shots comes to us from Dusty Monk; blogger, gamer, and all around geek, who captured this great image of his superhero, Stiletto, on patrol. He decided to drop us a picture postcard from her point of view:
“They say crime never sleeps. Fine by me… neither do I. You want to pull something at 2:00 am? Expect to find me there.
Waiting.” — Stiletto
Have you captured a great moment of role-playing that you’d like to share with the rest of us? We’d love to check it out. Send it in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a note. We’ll post it out here and give you the credit!

To date, the development team of The Secret World has almost been a secret society unto itself. We’ve heard whispers and tantalizing tidbits that have piqued our curiosity, seen teaser sites, and caught the occasional tweet from the front lines. Now, the floodgates are starting to open, and more details are coming to light for those craving information.
An interview with Ragnar Tornquist has just gone up on IGN and it is chock-full of tasty details about what players can expect from The Secret World. Along with the interview, there’s also a pile of eerie concept art illustrating some of the many different monsters we’ll see in the game — from brain-munching zombies to mutated boss monsters. There’s also some great news on how the development is going, owing in part to the work already done for Age of Conan.
So if you’ve been hungry for more details and a sneak-peek into more of the terrible things that await us as we take steps into The Secret World, then you’ll want to head over to IGN and check out the full interview. It looks like Tornquist and the team at Funcom are creating a fascinating modern-day monster of an MMO for us to enjoy.

“What makes a good MMO?” If you ask a thousand players that question, you will get — at the very least — a thousand different answers. While the concepts of good and bad when referring to a game are entirely a matter of individual opinion, there are presumably a few foundational elements that most players can agree on, and Russell from MMOCrunch tackled this topic in yesterday’s blog entry. He listed several “key factors” that he feels make a good MMO.
The first point he touched on was some sort of in-game holiday event. Nearly every game has something to acknowledge the holidays, whichever ones you might celebrate, and Russell referred to them as a sort of “holiday thank you from the game developers.” Another item on the list was one that we’ve seen come up time and again: good communication with your fellow players. Keeping in touch with the community helps to keep the game from becoming stale. These are just a few points touched on, so be sure to read through the full entry and see if you agree.
Again, there are as many opinions on what makes a game great as there are players out there, but this provides some good food for thought, and is one worth taking some time to read.

So, I’m sure at this point, the majority of you (the readers) are expecting the next WoW expansion to be announced during the BlizzCon opening ceremonies tomorrow. It’s a pretty safe bet! And we’re actually pretty sure it’s gonna be playable, too. Here’s why.
If you check out the BlizzCon map to which we linked earlier in the week, you’ll see that there’s a demo area set up on the right side of the convention center labeled “World of Warcraft”. Unless they’re having us play the Icecrown raid (probably not!) or open PvP, it’s likely that this area is for playing the tidbits they’ll have available of the new expansion. Playable starting zones for the new races, perhaps? A high-level zone or two? We’ll just have to wait and see.
We’ll have the WoW.com staff all up in that place, so we’ll get you up-to-the-minute info on what they see and hear at those stations!

This one has been in the game files for a while — the screenshot above has been with MMO Champion since November of last year — but the latest PTR Build reveals that the Arena Season 5 reward mount is a Frost Wyrm. Just as the otherworldly Armored Nether Drakes were representative of Outlands, the Deadly Gladiator’s Frost Wyrm is the perfect symbol of Northrend. As with past seasons, the mount is expected to be a 310% speed flyer awarded to the upper 0.5% of Arena participants in each of the three brackets.
With Arena Season 5 expected to close soon, perhaps as early as the release of Ulduar, players now have a small window in which to earn that Gladiator title and what might arguably be the coolest-looking mount in the game. In mount-related news, the Coralshell Turtle was renamed to Sea Turtle, whose tooltip reveals it as the first aquatic mount in the game: “This mount can’t move very quickly on land, but she’s a great swimmer.” Better practice that fishing…
